Clann Eireann and Killeavey have been building nicely on strong under age set ups in recent years. Maghery getting older and we are still relying on men well in their 30’s. Either of the first 2 names clubs will win the whole thing outright, with the Nab not a million miles off.

Was at two games at the weekend, Cross versus Madden wasn't too bad, Madden should have been further ahead in the early stages but wasted a lot in front of goal. Cross grew as the game went on and Madden seems to be more and more interested in trying to rough Cross up (Too cute for that) I think that was to their own demise. Interesting observation is that Cross don't get half the frees they used to get. Although I will add they were on the end of a few dubious decisions themselves, there should have been a few blacks or yellows handed out to Madden. Thought the key man was Morgan, when he moved further out the field he was able to break lines and go direct(Though he could have also got the line for two yellows) few of the Cross big guns were well marshalled. Rian O'Neills goal was the clearest square ball you will ever see. All in all Cross deserved it, but they are def beatable if Killeavey have anything up front.

Maghery Versus Harps was a strange spectacle altogether and never really got going until the last 2 minutes when Harps had a chance to poss snatch it, however Joe Mc ilroy didn't get the memo and kept shooting for points when 3 behind deep into injury time. Maghery started well, looked efficient and seriously secure at the back and that won them the game in the end. Cleaned Harps out in MF and Morrison persisted on kicking the ball into that area making James lavery look like an All star. Second half harps had most of the ball but no real scoring threat . Also conceeded a very soft goal following a mistake by a Harps defender (may have been a different result as Harps were making their way back into the game) Really disappointed in this one as a spectacle. Maghery are well drilled at the back and have some great movement up front. I feel they have a few aging legs though and that may just cost them against a more youthful opposition. I will add that they grew in stature as the championship went on last year.

Glad to see a few shocks in the Champ which has shaken it up nicely, looking forward to the next round of games in a wide open championhsip. Knock out is the only way to go.

Pat Spillane-esque from @bcb1 - either of the two O'Neills could win a Division 1 intercounty match on their own. Coupled with Morris, Morgan, O'Callaghan and McConville I just wouldn't be making us favourites for anything other than an early exit

It wouldn’t be championship without me bigging everyone else up except ourselves! This time though I don’t think I’m a million miles off.

Watching the game at the weekend I thought we struggled to impose ourselves on the game and that’s a concern. I think if you boys get a confident start you’ve nothing to fear. The guard must change at some stage and this could be the year for it.

Looking forward to these intermediate matches this weekend, really intriguing fixture tomorrow with Forkhill and The Saran, that Daly fella for the saran would need to keep his head screwed on or he will be seeing red again like last year. Speaking to a fella this week was talking about that wacky grass doing the rounds in the St.Paul’s team jaysus i hope not, hopefully spiteful rumours.

Cruppen vs Tones
Tullysarran vs Forkhill
Whitecross vs Sarsfields
St Pauls vs Culloville

Anyone see any upsets coming over the weekend?
Bar the Sarsfields game theres no heavy favourites in any of them so no real upsets either way. Hard to see an upset in that one given league form but championship is a different game so who knows

  • Tones to beat Cruppen as they seem to be a dogged outfit who've played senior football more recently. Cruppen very young and by all accounts not there physically/mentally just yet
  • Forkhill to beat Tullysaran.Basing this on no knowledge of Tullysaran and Forkhill having 3 county men
  • Sarsfields to beat Whitecross as theyre favs for the whole thing
  • Culloville to beat St Pauls. Again slight guesswork but Culloville possibly have a bit more fire power with Rowland and Watters and also have momentum. The shanes result surprised me. We played Culloville 2 years ago in a senior championship group game and must have beaten them by 25 points, youd have sworn they were going to be intermediate for a long time and didn't seem to have anything coming through. Really one of the worst outfits Id seen in a SFC game. So fair play to them for being on the up again

As others have alluded to, our game with Maghery was a strange spectacle. It was a game where we could have been beaten by ten points and in the end might have snatched a draw. I'd have to say there was a sense of disbelief in our Club at what we felt was a complete 'no-show' from our lads, with the team serving up our worst performance in over a year, and yet for all that could have got something from the game. In a low scoring encounter, a goal was always going to be crucial, and it came unfortunately from an error. The lad in question though has a bright future and will undoubtedly bounce back to be a mainstay of our team.

At half time, I felt Maghery were looking really good as a force in this year's Championship, as we could not penetrate their defence at all and they were moving the ball effectively into their attack, and were only let down by some terrible shooting. By the end of the game, I had revised that judgement, with my feeling that Maghery on the night were maybe the better of two low standard teams, given that Maghery only mustered two scores for well over half of the game and one of those was from an error and the other a close in free.

Still, I think that match might benefit Maghery - they have the confidence and self belief of being County Champions and have progressed despite playing poorly, with a lot to improve on from their victory. Really looking forward to the Clann Eireann match up.

Tonight's double header will be a good one to view, I think that wet rain might rattle tullysaran the year. Agree with you about that Eoghan daly fella he is fond of striking out when things aren't going his way, seen him many a time in the shambles arguing over a curry chip after a few beers haha!

Jaysus I heard a story or two myself but I wouldn’t one for rumours though best see it to believe, saying that his disciplinary record wouldn’t be in his favour and a hard hitting Forkhill might rattle his cage. I see you’re a Dorsey man not many about how you’s getting on this year? Hows young Connolly getting on fine footballer on his day that’s when ye get him out the pub hahaha

Collegeland unlucky in the intermediate this year. Can’t underestimate young Finnegans return from Australia last year. His impact at the 11 reminded me of Kevin Dyas impact under similar circumstances for Armagh years ago. Although he could do with a second diet for next year

Tullysaran looked very impressive tonight. Forkhill completely outplayed all over the pitch after the 5th minute. Scored 2 points between the 5th minute and the end of the game. Jemar sending off was correct decision, wound the boy up, got floored off the ball then bounced up and lifted his hand. Should know better. Had no bearing on the game all the same. Best team won
