Yes, not often a team can score twenty one times and still lose by eight.
We dominated the first half, despite starting slowly. Clann Eireann got the first point and then scored a goal when two of our players jumped for the one high ball into the square and left the Clann Eireann attacker with a simple fist to the empty net. From there it was one way traffic. We notched 13 points but spurned a 3 on 1 goal chance. A further goal chance was spurned late on and from that Clann Eireann went the length of the pitch to get their second goal. With time running out, they notched another two points and we therefore went in leading by 0-13 to 2-5 - a scoreline that did not do justice to our dominance, and yet that was totally our own fault.
We started the second half positively and strectched our lead to 4 / 5 but when Clann Eireann got their third goal and a few points, we were suddenly chasing the game. Play really became stretched in the last quarter, with points flying at both ends, but we could not manage to draw level. Late on, another needless mistake gave Clann Eireann their fourth goal and the game was won.
I'd have to say that Clann Eireann were deserving of their victory. They showed us how to finish for a goal, and I would have to say that some of their movement in the second half was excellent. Their point taking though was sensational, and they flew over from all angles.
That was an important league game for us. Winning that would have eased relegation worries and kept us in the hunt for a top four place, but we were undone by a succession of unforced errors, but fair play to Clann Eireann- they did not look the gift horse in the mouth.
