Losing last night was a bit of a disappointment, especially to Tyrone, but I can't say that I'm that bothered. We all know that Tyrone have been operating at a high level than us for nearly a decade now. They are one of the top teams in Ireland, with a deep panel of players to chose from and last night it showed that they are further ahead than us. But I think that what most fans wanted to see was us be competitive, which we were and for some better finishing, we could have won that game. The McKenna Cup has served it's purpose for us. We have gotten the maximum amount of games out of it, we've played some top teams (even if some of them haven't been at full strength) and won, we've introduced some new players to the panel and some of them have shown a lot of promise, other players who've been on the panel for a while and played sporadically have developed more and look more capable at county level and we've got some of our best players back and they are performing well. Out fitness levels will be high and have played plenty of football to get up to speed. I think that we are in a good place going into the league and we'll need to be because everyone of our games now is going to be competitive and we are going to need to play well to pick up points.

It was pleasing to see us stay with Tyrone and not throw in the towel when in the past we might have done. There were a number of needless turnovers last night, with sloppy passes or bad decisions, which Tyrone just pounce on and scored off. Every team will turn the ball over in a game, but it's the ones when we are under no pressure to give the ball away or run up a blind alley or put a player in trouble with a poor pass that are so frustrating.

I thought Niall Grimley had a good game, but that free at the end was a big miss especially when he'd nailed all the others. Stefan Campbell got some good points from play. Defensively we looked better I thought, even though there was some poor tackling. Kick outs were a problem and again it showed the level that Tyrone are at they were able to make it so difficult for us to find our men. I think James Morgan is a brilliant defender, but his gun-ho approach, launching into players on the ground and his over enthusiastic tackling gives away frees. I thought it was harsh to a second yellow as he clearly slipped and then collided with the player. Tyrone also got some frees which clearly never were, but that happens in every game.

It's been a good campaign, with some tough matches that should really set us up well for the league.
Great post. I fully agree on Morgan too. Plays very on the line and could maybe do with being a little less ‘gung ho’ as you say. Very good defender

Thought it was a decent performance and with a bit more belief and discipline could have won.

Tackling needs to improve. I thought the management should have had James off as he was inevitably going to get sent off. That is something that must be addressed from their point of view. There’s good players to come to the defence and that will shore it up a fair bit.

Midfield I thought that Grimley did well but Sheridan was disappointing. He’s a good player but I just don’t know if he’s quite good enough to push on. I think come championship time Oisin o Neill is the option for there. If Oisin is in that vicinity then you play Rian on the square with Jamie and Soupy. When Murnin is back id play him on the half forward line. Grugan i still think is not a central player and may suit playing with a stronger ball winner like murnin beside him and a worker like forker. Positives but work to do so not a bad position.

Poor call for Morgan's yellow last night so far as I could see. I love watching him play. Don't change a thing Sir James!

Some of the criticism of players has been very over the top, Ryan mcshane and jemar hall are both great players, may not be the biggest but are lightening quick and can run all day. Perhaps just not suited to facing a physically team such as Tyrone.

Agree that grugan shouldn’t have take pentaly, just not that type of ruthless finisher needed.

I for one was impressed with our tackling, while yes we gave away a lot of frees, I believe Tyrone were very lucky to get away with what they did. Morgan was unlucky to get 2nd yellow but was living on the edge the whole game, but 2 years ago he held Daniel Flynn (one of best forwards in Ireland) to 1 point against Kildare, so his methhods work just need a bit more tempering.

Also liked our increased physicality last night, last few years we would have let Tyrone walk all over us but we fronted up like Armagh teams of years past.

Joe mcquillan was beyond frustrating last night, usually I’m not one to simply blame the referee after a game but by god he was awful. Anytime Armagh players laid a finger on a Tyrone man a free was blown.

Overall very happy with last night and the competition as a whole, will stand us in good stead in the league but we as supporters need to refrain from jumping on the players backs if we suffer a loss, they’re human beings not robots and can’t be perfect all the time.

Id be a bit disappointed we are not yet at the same level of conditioning as tyrone and the other top teams ,hopefully we will get there
That type of conditioning doesn’t happen over night, years in division 1 and playing consistently in the latter stage of the championship brings players to that level.... it’ll come, I think we’re making gr8 progress,

I'd agree with a lot of this, particularly regarding oisin oneill at midfield and playing murnin at centre half forward. From what I've seen of rian, he looks as if needs he needs ball played in front of him whereas murnin looks very comfortable under a high ball - would this be fair enough assessment? Whilst it would be unfair on Grimley, would you have Rian hitting free kicks at this early stage?

How many did Grimley miss last night? Just the one at the end? I’d like to see Rian take a couple to see how he goes but Grimley is the main man at the moment

I think we lacked that bit of spark last night that we have shown in the previous games. I'm not sure if that was down to playing against Tyrone which maybe left us a bit uptight but we just weren't as confident? Grugan did not have as much influence as usual and a lot of what we do good comes from his ability to open a defense with a pass. I did notice a lot of space last night in front of the full forward line (Also in Donegal game) which is obviously a ploy to give the boys space to run into the long kick pass. Whilst I like the idea and it can cause trouble it is very energy sapping and maybe it will reap more rewards when the fitness levels are higher.
I think Blaine Hughes will learn a lot from that game, remember Tyrone are the masters of this technique and spend a lot of time on the training field practicing it so it's little wonder we struggled. Delighted that Niall Grimley is in midfield again, I thought he was excellent last night. He is a very honest player with loads of ability.
We missed the presence of Forker and Shields badly, both players can carry the ball at defenses which frees up space for the likes of Grugan to do his thing.
James Morgan is an excellent player but I do agree that he plays on the edge and needs to get a bit smarter as a smart player will get him booked as was the case with Canavan last night. He's a cut off the old block, the minute he gained possession and he realised he was heading for the corner he instinctively went to ground and Morgan ran over the top of him.
Based on all five games to date I am very happy, we have certainly made considerable progress. I would just add a word of caution, we are only in the early stages of development and unfortunately we are going to have some more setbacks but they should be take in the round. If we can target maintaining division two status and a super 8 finish I would be satisfied. An Ulster final would be nice though.

McQuillan is so frustrating. The amount of cards he dishes out is mad, even in a clean game. He never explains decisions or talks to the players. How many times does he dish out a yellow for both teams regardless of who started it or who fouled who? So annoying to watch.
