Big crowd for the Tones, Clans. Tones should have won by a lot more!!

Pity they werent entertained. Brutal stuff from both sides. Tones could have had a couple of goals to well and truly kill it. The less said about the clans the better. Maybe a lot of the young lads will learn from the experience.

Never been to a more dull and lacking in atmosphere championship match.

I think the constant tinkering with the Championship system has had a majorly detrimental effect on the competitions - certainly in Intermediate anyway. I think that playing rounds of the championship throughout the league season is a far far better way of running it for a number of reasons (all teams will still be in league competition rather than already safe/relegated etc so it will naturally be more competitive, in the current system if a player picks up a 2/3 week injury they could miss the entire championship campaign, clubs fighting against the light for training if they have no floodlights, lack of preparation or build up with matched every few days - this has had a big effect on crowds IMO, there are other reasons but you get the gist!) I dont understand the need to shoehorn it in at the end of the year.

I think it is to do with ulster.... Just natural progression. I think it suits best the way it is. Cant throw in championship matches in the middle of league matches I think

Sorry Eireogatron I had a laugh type chuckle: "I think the constant tinkering with the Championship system has had a majorly detrimental effect on the competitions" and then you add a "tinker" suggestion! Reminds me of what I do a lot. Sorry just had to share you cheering me up on a dreary Tuesday.

The start of the championship has actually only moved by a few weeks so I don’t think you can say it’s been shoe horned in.

After years of complaining about the league ending in October and teams that were safe throwing games or getting beat because they hadn’t trained in weeks, the clubs passed a motion that league should finish before the championship starts. That way the league should be fair as all teams are still training and trying to build momentum for the championship.

I actually think last year went well but some clubs complained that their season ended in August having exited the championship at the first opportunity. This could have been addressed by reducing the number of Friday night games and adding a few weeks onto the league. But clubs wanted more games so the new round robin championship got approved. Personally I think it’s the round robin (and backdoor) introduction that has affected the championship. I’d favour a straight knockout championship after the league ends. That would be 15 league games plus 1 guaranteed championship match.

Half the clubs would get 16 games, 1/4 would get 17, the 12 teams making championship semi finals would get 18 and the championship finalists would get 19 games.
