Nothing is going to change over the next year. The time for talking is over, McGeeney is manager for 2024. Just because the vote didn't go anywhere near the way some wanted, even if it did you would have needed a few to change their mind to get a majority.

Aye it is McGeeneys last year in charge

We should park the discussion until he steps away next June.

With the players we have promotion should be a certainty regardless of the manager. Somehow I have a feeling when it happens we will be told, this justifies geezers appointment and that's enough for him to have yet another year.

Fairly new in terms of discovering this forum but it would make you wonder about people. Perhaps influenced by the demographic who would typically spend time on forums in terms of age profile.

There are of course people with very measured / informed opinions but they seem to be a minority. A lot of populist opinions and maybe agendas.

Ultimately are we not all huge Armagh fans with the best interest of the county at heart? I have no problem with people looking for change but back it up with logic and reason on a discussion forum.

Also the response to last night is bewildering. Having taken the time for consideration, an overwhelming majority of the key stakeholders in Armagh football supported the manager to continue his work for another year. There were contrary views but for me it was the only logical step for Armagh.

Despite what reading this site might lead you to believe, the majority of Armagh supporters hoped for more from 2023 but were in no way wavering in their support of McGeeney. And so the vote reflected. Complaining about the process and who gets a vote is howling at the moon stuff.

Decision is made and no matter how people may wring their hands or gnash their teeth it’s done now.

The majority of the best players are on the squad, maybe a few additions, so this is probably the most important club championship in years. New goalkeeper option given Ethan’s injury. A strong and mobile CHB. At least 1 more around the middle. Oisin O Neill’s return from injury could be a key addition and he is playing ok so far. I’ll be selfish and hope for a good club run for our own needs but if we won Armagh a run in Ulster would benefit him greatly and also a few others on the Cross squad, Cian and Tiernan McConville in nets, as I think they could be important.

Geezer will be under intense scrutiny from the outset but let’s see how it goes. Gain promotion back to D1 and that’s a big step. A trophy is needed and by that I don’t mean a McKenna Cup. Success breeds confidence which breeds success. To use a soccer comparison I’m happier being a Liverpool fan who wins CLs every so often than an Arsenal fan who qualified every year but won none. Titles are all that counts so an Ulster title is minimum next season.

You are right about the 48 clubs
BUT the club vote is 51. Dual clubs have two votes

Any reasons why you think some abstained? I'm guessing that when the vote was being taken that 46 voted yes first and those that you say abstained didn't put their hand up because they realised the vote was going to be a Yes.

The county board is made up up of club delegates and officers. This is the same in every county.
The management committee is a subset of the officers and that membership is detailed in county bye laws.
Those allowed to vote is governed by the official guide.

It's done, it's over.
This isn't a club delegate v county officer vote. It's everyone's vote.
A lot of clubs discussed this and mandated their delegate to vote.
In this instance if there was just 1 or 2 votes in it the result is the same. Just like an election for a councillor etc..
We sometimes don't like results of elections - our own history shows that. But that's the way it is.
We move on.
Dual clubs do not have two votes.

I don't understand this agenda where it is almost 'how dare you criticise geezer after all he has done for armagh'. In my opinion he does not deserve another year as manager. I have nothing against him and i feel he has done his best up to now, but he is so miles off it tactically and its hurting us big time. We lost an ulster final and ai 1/4 final down to HIS negative, rotten and fearful tactics. But hey ho he is the manager for the year and i will stick back him and the boys for what its worth.
How many times have we felt that de ja vu feeling following armagh under geezer? Easily 5/6 times without diving too deep into my memory (although can point them out if anyone wants to hear them). The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

Nobody is saying don’t criticise him but when the criticism becomes personal - not saying that’s you - then it’s wrong

Unfortunately it was a done deal, no need for the meeting - the county board wanted him to stay on.
In fact, Geezer should have been sent packing a few times over recent years. If he had not been such an iconic player, he would have been let go long ago.

As for the meeting and the vote - how could delegates really vote yes or no when they do not know what no means (ie we do not have any alternative names who have been approached or who might be interested).

No would have meant nominations being requested by a certain date, interviews and then a ratification
Same as the minor manager position that's currently at the nomination stage.
That's the standard process.
Very clear.
