Is it time to consider new management?

Sad day for the county, the county board has elected to maintain the status quo. Sadly I predict well underperform for another 2 years :(

And what would under performing be? Let’s say we got rid of McGeeney and got any other manager in. If we draw Tyrone in the preliminary round if Ulster we are out. Would that be underperforming?

Ok, so this is clearly a fishing expedition but I'll hook myself on to the bait.
In terms of status quo, let's run with that one first. Like a lot of others on the forum (including some I suspect who claim to have inside knowledge) I'm an outsider to the squad. From what I can see, we have a squad of players who totally buy in to the methods and systems of the management. So status quo means a United and content squad.
In terms of the league, as a promoted team, we comfortably held our own in the higher division and could very easily have been pushing for a promotion again. So in a 2 year cycle, status quo means promotion to division 1 and comfortably holding our place there.
In terms of the championship, we have given this years (At Least) all Ireland semi finalists their toughest game yet, running them to 1 point in their own back yard.
Tell you what, status quo would do alright for me. You can think Whatever You Want but I don't think we're going Down Down, next year I hope to be Rockin all over the country.

Agree with most of that except I think Kerry gave mayo their toughest game to date. They gave them a shocking batein

That's not how the County sees it, based on the unanimous vote last night.
Yeah I'm led to believe that there were a few questions asked in terms of how they decided on two years and if it should only be one, but that there were no dissenters at all or negative comments, given that there was ample opportunity when the Chair expressed the selection committees comments in terms of positivity shown in progress this year. Someone also asked was anyone else approached or considered I believe, but that may have been an embellishment by the gentleman telling the story - ya know what these Lurgan wans are like!!

By the way @Rufus T Firefly , was he winding me up or is the new county admin a red hand county native married to a Derrymacash lad?

2 year cycle? 5 year cycle! We’ve made no significant progress in 5 years! As for the squad if you were to compare it to a team such as donegals, it’s much older and lacking in top-tier talent. We’ve had one excellent player come through this year in Rian but I believe we’ll lose as much talent to retirement or players just passing their prime. As for Jarly og I’m not convinced I think he only had one good half against down when unmarked. As for trying to use mayo as a benchmark to where we are? They’ve been beat by Roscommon, hammered by Kerry who drew with Donegal and then turned round and outplayed Donegal, there not a reliable team to benchmark against. You can put your positive spin on McGeeney if you like but he’s not gonna have us beating a Donegal or Tyrone in an Ulster Final in 2 years times which is where we should aim to be. I’ll happily eat my hat if he does.

No manager is going to have us beating Tyrone or Donegal in Ulster full stop, nevermind a final. So I will ask you again if we draw either of those two in a preliminary round and get beat will that be underperforming?

The season has to be looked at as a whole to answer that question. If you were to isolate that game with with no other perspective and not taking the the score different and performance into account, losing in the preliminary round next year to a top 6 side in the country would not be underperforming. However it would be more sensible to look at it from what would then be a six year tenure which would then be 1 win from 8 Ulster championship games which includes loses to both Fermanagh and Down. It seems to me that you don’t really care who manages us or how we perform we should just accept the way thing are and hope for the best.

And if we drew Antrim in preliminary, beat Fermanagh in QF, and Derry in a semi to reach the final, would that be over-performing?

The luck of the draw can mean the difference between a great manager and a shite manager.

That is my point.

However in this case it wouldn’t be over achieving as we would be expected to beat these teams

That’s what you took from what I said? Really?

I actually think Armagh would be able to match Donegal and Tyrone. There are just too many glaringly obvious problems within the team that limits us and they haven't been addressed.

Getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but success needs to be measured two fold. League first and then championship. We stayed in division 2 for next season, success would be promotion or pushing promotion. If we got promoted to division 1 and gained invaluable experience of playing top team on a regular basis then we would likely see more success at championship level. So realistically success next season is getting to Division 1 via promotion. The championship draw would have a lot of sway in what way things work out on that front. Though a home draw would be nice.
