I'm pleased to see McGeeney get another two years. I think that there has been obvious signs of improvement in terms of the quality of squad we have, the style of play and the conditioning of the players. It's hard to judge what success looks like when you aren't one of the big teams, as only one team can win Ulster and the All Ireland. I think that challenging for promotion next season would be another step forward. With Cavan and Roscommon coming down, Fermanagh and Kildare still in the division and Laois and Westmeath coming up, it's going to be another tough battle for promotion. We showed that we can compete at this level last season and threw away wins against Clare and Kildare, which could have made a real difference.
McGeeney needs to work out how to get this team to be more ruthless and win the games we are cruising in. All too often we press the self destruct button in games, when we are well on top. If that means replacing certain coaching staff, then so be it. Depending on who we get in the Championship, getting a couple of wins under our belt in Ulster, maybe an Ulster final in the draw is favourable and getting to the Super 8's would be massive progress. I think this team has the potential to be a top 8 team, if they realise their full potential. McGeeney now has two more years to get us to that level.
