I know we have serious issues with the defence, but this is a Gaelic football issue.

Dublin seem to be the only team who know how to defend at present. Kerry have struggled with it for years and Mayo's defenders left a lot to be desired.

Is this a coaching issue or is it the way the tackle is now being policed?

The blanket defence plague has led to our intercounty players relying on defence in numbers and now that teams are trying to be more attacking, defenders are left exposed.

Really wish we had a few proper man markers.

Was one of those privileged to be at the match. Contrary to what I have read on here I felt Armagh defended very well for the majority of the game. That is from watching live and rewatching Eirsport recording.
We really did struggle in last 10 minutes or so. I assume that Murnin wasnt fit enough to be given enough time to help us over the line.
Excluding kickouts I thought Hughes did well - bar one punch he should have caught. As for the kickouts that is a problem for all the players and not just the keeper. As supporters we have to be careful. The grief given to a number of keepers since Hearty retired has led to a number to walk away. I cannot see an obviously better keeper in the county. Others may know differently.

As for pluses. The biggest for me is that I felt disappointed we didn't win when we left the ground. Things are improving and it was great to be back cheering on Armagh!!

I take your point about the kickouts last night and I probably like everyone else was blaming Blaine but on reflection it’s a problem upfield as well.

While we can all see green shoots emerging and Armagh are becoming a great attacking force there are a number of players that need to stand up and become leaders the same way McBrearty stood up for Donegal last night . Tight Games are won from 60 mins onwards and we were rudderless last night from in that time period a lot of these players have been around 3+ seasons and they need to move up to the next level . Where are the leaders ? That’s what disappointed me the most over the past 2 games no one standing up taking control in the championship minutes . I think the way Tyrone and Donegal manage games is also something we lack we have looked very nervous in winning positions and need to learn to see out games a lot better if we are looking to play top flight football and challenge for provincial championships .

So, if it’s AG. Armagh fans only?

Away. Roscommon fans only?

Neutral, fan numbers depends if North or South?

Apparently, home venue is first decided by the number of home teams have already had, and the toss only arises if this is the same. Armagh have already had 2 homes games, not sure about the Rossies.

We don't have the players that can come on and settle the team down bar Donaghy - who for whatever reason is not being used. The vast majority of the team is at the same/similar stage of development. There are no game changers in terms of substitutes that Armagh can make unless we are willing to forego using the likes of Morgan, Forker or Campbell from the start.

Does anyone think Hughes needs to be more vocal in goal? I don't get to see him for the whole 70 minutes but he seems to be very quiet.

For me the frustration was Donegal didn't win that game, we lost it and lost it in such a stupid way. A win yesterday would have been the confidence boost the team needed, the realisation they are good enough. Although I wouldn't have fancied playing Dublin or Kerry.

We don’t seem to be able to close games out . Tyrone showed us how it is done , the previous week. When you get in front late on, get the ball and keep it . Knock it around in the backs and when the opposition have to come out to get it , pick off a few points.

There is a generation of players that have been raised with a blanket defence and a sweeper or even two. This has made its way through all tiers of the sport including our underage teams.

These players never had to learn the skills required to mark your man, one on one, and win the personal battle. So it’s hardly surprising that across the country it’s hard to find defenders of the highest quality, we haven’t coached them.

A lot of the blame lies with underage coaches that set up teams to play behind the ball and defend in numbers. These are usually the same people that grade their underage teams as low as they can because winning a grade 3 league is seen as better than competing but ultimately losing at grade 1 or 2

They have had two home games

Dublin and Kerry

Is there a pitch anywhere that straddles the border? Armagh fans could sit in the northern end, and Roscommon in the southern end. And nobody would have to break any restrictions. Plus it’ll be a neutral venue.

I’d imagine they’ll have neutral venue for all relegation playoffs. Unless Laois are involved. They should get home advantage, be allowed to use more subs than their opponents, and if they lose they should get a rematch. With home advantage again, of course.

My guess is that Armagh will play Roscommon in Cavan if its not being used that weekend

On the game v Donegal another game against a so called top 4 team that slipped away
We are right there but injuries are hurting the strength of the bench
Aidan forker
Paddy Burns
Mark Shields
Ethan Rafferty
Aidan Nugent
Ryan Kennedy
Stephen Sheridan
Ross McQuillan came off
Ross Finn came off
James Morgan came off
There may be more that we don't know

We are more than fit for Division 1. Hopefully a good win against Roscommon will setup things for championship

Never got to watch the Roscommon game but they conceded 2-3 against a Kerry team that were down to 14 in the last ten minutes.

Galway don't have a problem playing for the full 70 minutes so sort of glad not to be playing them although they were up against a weakened Dublin team.
