Tell you what, I hope he reconsiders.

Can you imagine thon boy coming roaring at you like he is in that photo in today's Irish News? Would scare the bejaysus out of any opposition!

Surely you have to sit back and ask yourself "why are all these players not prepared to play for Armagh?" Are the management teams of weaker counties like ourselves asking too much of players and the players know they have little or no chance of success and decide to play for their clubs instead where they know at least they will get a game week in week out. At the end of the day it is a hobby and players wa t to be playing not simply being a 'tackle bag' for a 15 a side match at county training which unfortunately a lot of lads are in all counties.

I propose clubs playing regularly, with the county playing say, the last weekend of every month. A bit like the soccer with clubs/internationals.

Most club players could easily slot into the county team given modern training. Those in form for clubs are picked for county. So no players are only committed to the county team, and all get regular club games through the year.

The county have no need to drag players away from their clubs for months on end. They get them for a week before next county game like international managers do. Fixtures set in stone so everyone knows where they stand.

That would be a max of 12 county games a year assuming no break. Not sure that would work. Good idea in principle though

It would really only have to coincide with club league and championship fixtures which are April to October. January February march I am sure most club managers would not be worried if the county played a game every weekend ie McKenna cup and league wrapped up before club leagues start which I think it is this year but the problem club managers and players have is that from April to July the clubs might only get access to their players for 3 games during league and 15 to 20 'county' players have only played 3 games in 4 months due to being a sub for county and then they cone back into club for the 2 weeks before first round of club championship. Not ideal preparation for any team.

The GAA is a business and the county teams are the cash cows. There will be limited about of changes made unless there is a financial reason. I have said it before and will say it again, we are losing our games as money dictates everything. Weaker/smaller counties are going further and further away so I don’t see anything really being done to assist them unless there are spending caps etc out in place
