Wonder how Donegal will approach the final, from a few interviews narrative seems to be focus is the 1st round clash with Derry.

I think Harte has been eyeing up the league final so expect the Division 1 final to be a ding-dong between Dublin and Derry.

We’ve the luxury of having a less demanding draw so have to expect we’ll play our strongest hand at present.
Getting the excuses in early, possibly mind games to get mcgeeney to rotate a bit. Surely a beating from us would be a real knock to confidence going into that Derry game, especially if Derry go out and beat Dublin after it. McBrearty is a loss in fairness but surely they can’t not go for a final because they’re missing one player.

Our strongest hand- will we know it when we see it?

I’d say at the minute our strongest hand is the lads that have been playing. The likes of Rian aren’t there yet.

Hughes

McGrane
McKay
McCambridge/Burns

McElroy
Forker
McCabe

Crealey
Ciaran Mackin

Conor O’Neill
Grugan
Soupy

Conaty
Murnin
Turbo

Mackin and O’Neill were carrying knocks I think so could possibly see Duffy etc come in.

McGrane and Conaty look like keeping their places for the foreseeable,

Would love it if we flipped the whole narrative on it’s head this year by beating Derry if both teams get to Ulster Final.

For all the hype around them we gifted them a goal and missed and handy free near the last and still were only beat on penalties.

I hear McElroy is out for a few weeks unfortunately, injured against Cork

Folks hope this ok to post here. Keep this lad and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Absolutely fantastic young man. Very tough on Caolan. But having donated myself and looking at the amount on gofundme it shows the community spirit of the GAA in Armagh and further afield.

Caolan - a sensational footballer too. Put on one of the best individual performances in 2022 for St. Colman's v St. Ronan's.

At 18 he scored the only goal in the Armagh Senior Championship final as most of us know.

I've constantly got the candle lit and praying for Caolan and his family.

A humble, genuine young gentleman. A role model for those younger than him, not simply as a footballer with a fantastic attitude, but as a young man.

Couldn't agree more.

I don't understand what is it with the media - especially in the South who have this 'Pro-Derry' agenda.

Armagh or Tyrone, when they were the two best teams in the country never got any such affection.

That final last year was a tough one to take.

Rory called a mark he shouldn't have but that's easy to say as a spectator. I think an easier score was on had he not called it.

But the Derry free in the second period of ET to draw them level was beyond a disgrace.

James Morgan followed McGuigan out the field - McGuigan receives the ball about 65m out. Rian comes in to assist Morgan in their efforts to win the ball back. Did McGuigan appear to be fouled? Very debatable. But a free from there wasn't going to hurt as no shot was on.

McGuigan bites O'Neill on the chest. When O'Neill tries to explain to the ref, he is penalised for remonstrating and the ref moves the free forward. McGuigan sails the free over from 45m.

What was most frustrating that day was we played Derry at their own game and still should have beat them. Derry were shrewd with their time-wasting when Armagh were a man up in ET after Rodgers' black card.

On a side note - that rule of not being able to replace a man on a black card but being able to replace a man on a red card in ET made no sense whatsoever. But due to the caliber of player - Derry will not have been to hurt as they could reintroduce Rodgers rather than having to replace him with a lesser footballer had he saw red.

O'Neill and Brendan Rodgers stood out that day.

I have no doubt - if we have a few key men back in the fold come the Ulster Final (provided both teams make it) Armagh are well capable of beating Derry.

I wanted them in the QF in 2022 rather than Galway. I was optimistic last year we would take them in an Ulster final. And I have every reason to be as optimistic this year with a full compliment of players.

Would certainly tear up the script the 'Derry-friendly' media have been writing over the past 2 years.

Totally agree. Was extremely pissed off leaving Clones last year as Derry were there for the taking. They are flying this year but still beatable. Though if we do beat them the narrative will be that provincials don’t matter.

excellent overview of that final. It was indeed a tough one to take.

Derry = good nordies
Armagh/Tyrone = bad nordies
