Be interested to hear why people believe Sheridan warrants a starting place in the middle ahead of Jarly Og.
Other than experience, and that may be sufficient for a championship game, is there any facet of a midfielder’s armoury in which Sheridan is better equipped?
Midfield seems to be an area where Down seem to be struggling so whoever we deploy I’d expect us to win that sector.
I agree that Sheridan is a good foot soldier - but not a top class midfielder. I would prefer to see a fit Oisin O'Neill in midfield - he can certainly field kick-outs and can score points from long range. Re Jarly Og - he has to start as well, in place of Jemar Hall.
By the way - if we cannot beat a rubbish Down team, we can pack it all on!

Armagh team that faced Down in 2017 - B Hughes; J Morgan, C Vernon, P Hughes; A McKay, B Donaghy, M Shields; S Sheridan, J McElroy; A Forker, O O'Neill, R Grugan; J Clarke, S Campbell, A Murnin.
Positive additions - Rian O'Neill, McCabe, Grimley, Hall, Rafferty, Kennedy, Jarly Og, Mini, P Burns.
Barring injuries (I don't even want to contemplate it) that doesn't look too bad. Definitely far more depth to the panel.

Hall more than deserves his spot

My team for championship vs Down if all are fit.

B. Hughes
A. McKay
J. Morgan
R. Kennedy
B. Donaghy
M. Shields
A. Forker
N. Grimley
C. Vernon
J. Hall
R. Grugan
E. Rafferty
R. O'Neill
J. Clarke
S. Campbell

A. Murnin; S. Sheridan; C. Mackin; J. Burns; P. Hughes; R. McQuillan

Murnin and McQuillan (if available) would cause the Down defence headaches at the start or mid-way through a game.

Agreed - I had my doubts at the beginning of the year but in fairness he puts in some shift and can clip on a score or 2 - which is just what you want from a wing-half. I think he's a 50/60 minute man with the likes of McElroy or McQuillan coming in for impact.

Paddy Tally will set-up this Down team a la Fermanagh with the idea of frustrating us and hanging in to the death when a score or 2 might do it. They are more than capable of setting a trap for us and taking scalps, especially at home.

I don’t understand how anyone could leave Hall out of their team, he’s been one of our best players in the league. Team should be pick by players on form don’t pick a team just because of who they are. Tell me what Forker or Grugan have done this year so far? Did we miss Forker when he was out injured for a few games?

I agree with you but hopefully come championship they’ll be back to they’re best. Grugan on his best form is a far better player than hall at his best

Agree with general thrust of your post, but the answer to your question is 'yes', we did miss Forker when he was out. He has become one of those 'indispensable' men...skill, guts, commitment. All out all the way, he's one of those guys who's effort is often noticed only when you see the tape later on. An A-plus type of player!

Forker is one of the players first on the team sheet we clearly missed him in the Donegal game

Grugan has contributed to about 20% of Armagh's scores throughout the NFL scoring a total of 17 points out of 86, not including goals (12f; 5 from play). There is only one player outperforming him and that is O'Neill who has scored 19 (13 from play; 5 frees and 1 mark) and that is with Grugan playing 85 minutes more football than O'Neill.

Based on scoring alone Grimley, O'Neill and Grugan have contributed to 60.5% of Armagh scores in this NFL campaign.

I see Paddy Burns has made the hoganstand.com team of the week.

No harm to Paddy, but this confirms to me that hoganstand's 'team of the week' is a load of bulls##t
Have to agree with this. In the first half burns looked like a lad pulled in off the street who had never played before. Very rusty. Cane into it more in the second half tho

I wonder how many frees Grugan missed. He has not been up to his high standards this year. A lot more to come from him

I wish I had that information available - if the CB haven't invested in tech that can track player movements on a pitch and all other statistics it really should.
