McKay did well, as did McCabe and vernon, Mark shields was prob the pick. Good team performance with the breakaway goal at start of the second half settling it. But Sligo were brutal and threw the towel in very early.

Who played well today
Funny enough, for a match in which we racked up a big score, the defensive display caught my eye today. Tackling was superb, all over the pitch I should add, and was as intense in the last minute as it was in the first. Sligo never got an inch. A lot of people thought Elvis Crealey wouldnt come on but theyve just got suspicious minds.

Good win, Sligo were very poor to be honest but you can only beat what turns up. Armagh played well at times but felt there was def more goals in the game -still 2-17 is a decent score in first league game. I thought A. McKay was excellent at full back, Mark Shields was also very good along with Charlie and McShane who was lively as usual. Ethan grew into it and I like the idea of he and Murnin in the ff line. Direct balls were sent in in the first half without great success but I do think it’s something worth persevering with. Westmeath will def be a tougher proposition (I see they disposed of Derry scoring the same as us) 2pts are a welcome start to the league.

A good performance today but quite a few pieces of sloppy play. Sligo very poor. I’d say they may well go down if that’s all they have to offer. Good to get such a big score. Was impressed with McCabe

Deary me. And they said the watery vegetable drink talk was bad.

Silverbridge to armagh in 32mis allowing for the horrific potholes on the Newtown Rd.
Ladies was a game of two halves, excellent in the first, with the wind but poor against the wind. They cudnt get the ball out, and Tipp punished them. Good to see Kelly Mallon back playing though and she put a good shift in. Was two points in it at the end (2-12 to 2-10) but in reality armagh gifted maybe 1-3 in poor individual errors to allow Tipp to take the game.

Men's game was different fayre. Again we started with the wind and had racked up a 0-10 to 0-02 HT lead. Grugan was the main source of scores early on, with Rafferty and Forker also chipping in.

Grugan and Rafferty (wherever he's from) getting scores. Music to my ears.

Top of the league for me I reckon!

Did aaron findon or eamon mcgeown get any game time

Neither got on.

I see a lot saying how well shields played. For an experienced player he gave away a lot of frees in first half. Vastly improved in second. His experience is key in a young defence where I thought McKay was outstanding. McCabe growing well in to a county player too. Sheridan and Vernon controlled midfield. Rafferty had his best game in a while too.

2 Pts very important, but equally important at this stage is racking up a scoring differential. Because once again it may come down to points scored for and against. Great start and we shouldn’t fear anyone in the division. Just need to keep finishing teams off when the opportunity presents, which hopefully will be throughout this campaign. Two good goals today, good free taking and fabulous defensive effort.

Can definitely see the work done by Jim McCorry already with the defense. Far fewer needless frees given away. Very very impressive defensive display. Of course the oppositon must be taken into account but we would have been in Division 2 with a one point win v this team last year.

Still have worries about the attack and the lack of pace in it. Would have preferred to see Forker actually patrol the half forward line rather than play as deep. We still lacked a kick passing outlet. Hence almost everything was done through the hand up to a certain part of the field.

Also while Ethan Rafferty did many many good Things. He is extremely greedy at times and fails to see players in better positions. We had an almost certain goal on when he blazed over for a point. McKay as full back Looks Like he has matured massively in only a year. Hughes is a very good player for them and gave Charlie a total skinning a few years ago in Sligo. McCabe was also excellent. His discipline again much improved.
There seems to be a good unity about the team I feel. I liked the way they were determined to keep going right to the end. Perhaps the leaving of a few diva Like personalities has been of overall benefit to the squad.
Next week is a massive massive test. They will be absolutely frothing at the mouth to win after last year and confidence will be booming With a win in Derry
It’s early to say it but I’d nearly say this is almost our biggest game of the year. Win and promotion Should be within reach. Lose and the pressure to win almost every remaining game will be massive.
The league is Armagh’s true focus this year. The summer is a bonus. No promotion and the year I’s a failure no matter what.

Enjoyed a lot of the play today, Sligo were as bad an inter county side as I have seen. That said I thought the Armagh lads were extremely fit and physically stronger than their opposition. I though McKay & McCabe did very well, with Rafferty & murninan creating lots of problems for the fb line, I would have moved McShane up closer to goal to pick up the loose ball. Midfield was very good & are very mobile, shows how wasted Charlie was playing full back these last few years.... I’m looking forward to the game next week.... will be a tough one

Didn’t get to the game because of work but good start , I listened a bit on the Armagh Facebook page and it seemed we got away with a few Goal chances can anyone enlighten me on this .

The next time I listen to the match I am going to have a game of ‘Armagh Commentry Bingo’ if you were drinking every time they mention Ecclestiastical capital of Ireland , or Allianz sponsoring the leagues for over 25 years , driving forward , The armagh man has the ball you would get bananas and your Sunday at home or work would fly by @PatMustard you could do it with Soup .

Sligo had a goal chance or two, mainly handling errors on our behalf but both keeper and defence threw all in front of the chances. We did well

A very controlled performance outside of seven or eight minutes towards the end. Every player was solid to outstanding, with the defence particularly good. Lots to look forward to.
