He came out and said that but he also said that a member of McGeeneys back room team had called to him and said he was no longer required and there was no place for him..
Think we all would love to see him back and I don’t think armagh can afford to have a player of his talents not playing for his county. Any other county in our position would have him playing and more than likely captain

I know it is may be a biased view but a county official told me a completely different thing. Anyway Aaron Kernan is a great player but his time has passed. Let him play club football. A great servant.

Watched the game again there. Couple of points. Hall played much better than I thought and , possibly coincidentally, the Down comeback started after he was black carded. Also, when there was 2 points in it at end Burns took a great catch from a kick out. The referee missed the mark and a free was subsequently given to Down. Devlin scored a free at the end of next passage of play.

Would have to wholeheartedly agree with this. Such behaviour can never be condoned or qualified either before during or after a match or be it at club level or county level.
I've watched, rewatched and rewatched and I simply can't believe the serious amount of tripe being written about McKernan running into our manager.
The video clearly shows that neither changed stride or direction and that both were focused on different locations.
Has it really come to this that so called supporters have to grasp at straws to gain a type of backlash against our manager?
Has it resorted to the holier than thou cross brethren picking on quite possibly the most gifted footballer that club and county has ever witnessed? We are only hearing one side of an alleged story and if the player doesn't want to play for the club until the county run is over or for any other reason then that's the way it is.

Can we just get behind our county team and support them - I mean genuinely support them.
There is a genuine opportunity to reach an Ulster final as only four teams can play in the semi-finals and we are one of them
We are blessed with truly outstanding and gifted players and they are all human - they make mistakes and have off days - it happens.
Talking to Down supporters today they openly admit that Down played out of their skins compared to their league performances. They were hunting a team playing in a division above them and we availed. That is fact.

June 2nd is a huge game and I wish the players and all involved all the best as they recover and prepare for that game - the glass is half full and filling up

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but facts can’t be ignored, there has been lows in geezers reign but overall he has brought the county forward ...

I’m neither McGeeneys biggest fan nor detractor, but I am a stats (or facts) man and unfortunately the facts do not support your claim.

We have neither moved on in league or championship terms since Kieran took over. Our league form has been static and yesterday we won our first championship game in 5 years. Kieran has one of the lowest win rates of any recent armagh manager despite playing at a lower level than most of his predecessors.

Now I’m not saying that’s all his fault, but to claim that he has brought the county forward is not supported by ‘facts’

Regarding the shoulder on McKernan, I actually think mcgeeney done right. McKernan was running into his path, deliberately so in my opinion, Kieran just turned his shoulder.

Donaghy REALLY ?
And Murnin, although he made a match winning appearance (10 mins) would hardly qualify for team of the week.

GAA.ie Football Team of the Week

1: Bernard Power (Galway)

2: Liam Silke (Galway) 3: Padraig Faulkner (Cavan) 4: Jason McLoughlin (Cavan)

5: Brendan Donaghy (Armagh) 6: Darren O'Hagan (Down) 7: John Daly (Galway)

8: Gearoid McKiernan (Cavan) 9: Jarlath Og Burns (Armagh)

10: Martin Reilly (Cavan) 11: Niall Murphy (Sligo) 12: Johnny Heaney (Galway)

13: Andrew Murnin (Armagh) 14: Rian O'Neill (Armagh) 15: Niall Murray (Cavan)

Whether it was right or wrong, I think geezer knew what he was doing with the oul shoulder. Armagh were in a state of shock at FT, he did it to get a shamozzle going, get a bit of fire in the belly and take the mind off just what had happened... well that’s my theory anyway

The Irish News rating for Jemar reads as follows:

"Industrious. His interception, deep in Armagh territory resulted in a point for Clarke. Marked Conor Maginn out of it and full of running until his black card late in the second half 7"

They would be in agreement with your analysis upon a 2nd viewing @Throwball. Sometimes we as supporters don't necessarily see the hard work players are doing off the ball. I have to say having watched Jemar all year unlike quite a few on here I would certainly be including him in our starting 15, he has more than earned his place.

Fully agree. Jamar has been great for us all year. He was below his normal level yesterday but wasn’t as bad as has been made out. I guess there are different standards for different players

Despite all the negatives spouted about us in the press and by fans of other counties we are just not cynical enough.
We need to learn when to "take one for the team"
5 points up with a couple of minutes left ...you dont allow a team to run at you. Would Tyrone have allowed that? Not a chance. the runner would have been "stopped" in his own half, well out of free scoring range.
Also when we hit a purple patch and a team has an "injured player" we seem to lose concentration.... Down keeper yesterday, and the exact same thing against Meath in the league in Navan when we got back to a point down. We seem to loose momentum/concentration after the stoppage.
That said its a long time since we had a day like that, so much better to beat Down in their own backyard than Westmeath or Sligo down the country.

One question lads - does a black card rule you out of extra time? Was very surprised that Down didn't put their keeper back in - he looked more assured than the sub-keeper.21?
Yes. A Dismissal during the game means you are not available until the next eligible game (which could be straight after the game has finished) and you could technically play right away unless it was a straight red card which usually means a one game suspension - exception obviously is a straight red rather than two yellows followed by a red.

Also - rule geeks - If the keeper takes a quick kick out before his own players are out past the 21 - is that not a retake rather than a hop ball on the 21?
Again that is correct. The referee will order the kick to be retaken where it happens too quickly. Exception: where this happens on two (or more) occasions and the ref deems it to have been a deliberate act, it is therefore a foul and the sanction is the ball is hopped on the 21m line. The ref may also make this decision if he indicates to the goalkeeper to wait on his whistle and he doesn't. It may be deemed as dissent and the referee may also award a yellow card for the infraction.

As far as I remember

A great servant for Armagh and was a smashing player. One of my all time favourites. But the man is done Lads. As the frogs in the Budweiser ad said “let it go Louis, let it go”.

I think everyone has missed a major point here (excuse the pun!)

Because we were so focused on wanting to win yesterday we had to have a draw at full time (of normal time) so they could get back to 15 v 15, just so we could say we beat a full compliment of players. We then had to let them back to within a point so they knew they had their fingertips on it but just didn't have enough to finish it. A one point defeat is as demoralising as a 20 point defeat and sure Donegal will destroy them in the qualifiers first round, so no more championship this year for them. JOB DONE!!

Can anyone tell me why down were able to bring on their replacement keeper straight away once their number 1 received his black card, but we had to wait until the next break in play to replace Jemar?
