Team announcements are reassuringly unexciting these days. A lot of continuity. A reasonable chance that the team named will actually start and being on the bench doesn’t have disappointment of the old days as any of the subs could be called upon and more than a couple of them will have meaningful impacts.

Not that I personally have been named on the bench.

Cant wait until Sunday, wouldn't be surprised if either team wins by 4 or 5, we definitely have the strongest bench, can match them physically and can vary our game a lot more. Worried about kickouts and the midfield battle. Be interesting to see how mc partlan goes, he has it in his locker to kick long range scores against the packed defence and his kick passing could be key to us getting inside men on the ball but i just hope he isnt over ran by the derry midfield, if he can perform in this game i think it will prove he can be a top midfielder for years to come

What age is McPartlan?

I would say there is an agreement between the county board and manager that Gallagher prepares Derry squad for the game on Sunday but he is not to make an appearance on the side line.

Armagh on the other hand need to take this opportunity and leave it all out on the pitch to claim a title we really do need. A win would certainly give this team a morale boost which will work wonders for the AI.

What does everyone think? Will his departure help or hinder Derry? No doubt going forward he’ll be a loss in footballing terms but what about this one off match?
Impossible to know. But guess we will find out on Sunday.

With or without Gallagher have always felt we are capable of getting at Derry. I might be in the minority but still not convinced by this Derry team.

Is Gallagher just gone for this match?

Will he still be on the training field up until Sunday?

If he still has input into the Derry team, then it probably won’t hinder Derry that much. Their preparations are done, and him not being there lessens any chances of protests/booing/trouble etc, so Derry are free to go out and play their game without any distractions.

The statement is vague. The wording of step back to me suggests he may still be operating in the background.

It may be that he just won't present on sidelines during matches. Is he still involved in training sessions, team preparation, etc. Is unclear

However if he is still involved in a background role and media gets wind of it would be a PR disaster for the Derry county board

In terms of the occasion his departure changes everything and for the better. Speaking to some good decent Derry people and they really couldn’t see how they would get any enjoyment out of the day with him there.

In pure football terms it might not change so much. Derry’s gameplan is well advanced. The work is done and the wider management team know how to continue it. The specific plans for Armagh were well on their way. We were basically 75% of the way between the semifinals and final and training would have been on the wind down. Really whatever “magic” he brought to match day is all that Derry miss out on.

For us, nothing changes.
