I always thought ballyhegan spent their time between junior/intermediate level. Didn’t think they ever reached senior o_O
There ye go! They had a group of really good players came through underage in early 90’s who were a solid senior team for 4-5 years. Sure so we’re Collegeland in those days with a million McGearys!

Ah yes, I remember Collegeland in senior then. I remember they had 3 matches of a play off with Grange to see who went up to Div 1. And I believe there’s still a million McGeary’s lining out!

I remember Collegeland playing Eire Og in the 2000 intermediate final. I remember their team list included something like 12 McGearys. My Dad commented at the time 'I see McGeary is missing. He must be injured'

Nope, we played them in senior championship in 2001 and 2003. They had a great team at the time. Outside of the above names you had a young Paul Courtney, Barry Hughes who was on the 1992 minor team, Barry Murphy who played underage for the county (and I think has been a poster on here and the GAABoard over the years!!), Conor McKeever who I played county minor with, and a few other really good players.
Ballyhagan won a intermediate championship title in 1997 & i think Barry Murphy was the captain

This would be my team for championship (injuries permitting of course and knowing Oisin O’Neill is probably out long term)

In brackets a player to cover that position. Quite a lot could easily be in first 15. On paper we have a serious serious team.
  1. Ethan Rafferty (Shea Magill)
  2. Aaron McKay (Paddy Burns)
  3. Aidan Forker (Ciaran Higgins)
  4. James Morgan (Ross Finn)
  5. Conor O’Neill (Conaire Mackin)
  6. Barry McCambridge (Greg McCabe)
  7. Ciaran Mackin (Joe McElroy)
  8. Jarlath Og Burns (Stephen Sheridan)
  9. Ben Crealey (Niall Grimley)
  10. Rory Grugan (Ross McQuillan)
  11. Rian O’Neill (Tiernan Kelly)
  12. Stefan Campbell (Callum Cumiskey)
  13. Aidan Nugent (Cian McConville)
  14. Andrew Murnin (Shane McPartlan)
  15. Conor Turbitt (Jason Duffy)

Some squad when looking at that. If everyone was magically fit I'd have oisin O'Neill in CHF with Rian full forward, and I'd probably try Morgan in half back

Are any of the current McGeary’s playing for Tyrone in any way connected to the great Johnny McGeary who played midfield for Armagh in ‘60’s? Same hair color and never ending energy.

Serious panel there if we can get boys fit. Would say Burns, Duffy and McCabe will all start if available.

The intense club rivalry was always the driver. Pablo mentions use and Mullaghbawn in the late 90’s and early ‘00s but at that time Clans, Dromintee and Pearse Ogs also drove us hard. Between all these 5 teams there were 10 of the starting team in 2002 (Geezer was really Mullaghbawn) and then Bumpy and Tony Mc came on. These 5 teams were the bedrock of the squad. There is not the same level anymore across the seniors. Everyone who played the AI final played senior club football apart from John Toal I think and maybe Andy McCann. All playing at a consistently more competitive level. We don’t have that anymore.
There are too many clubs but without major surgery of the system that won’t change and you’d need a lot of buy in.
I believe Keady were in the senior at that time too, having won the intermediate in 95 we didn’t drop back down until about 2005 or 2006

Good to see this thread kicking off now that the nightmare of the league is over.

We've a lot to look forward to in the Championship and hopefully an ulster final to come.

Food for thought, what's our best starting 15 if everyone is fit?

Appreciate that's a silly question because it depends on the opposition but I'm twisting my mind about the midfield and I still think our best options are Crealey and Mackin.

If everyone is fit!!

Rafferty

Mccabe
Forker
Mckay

Morgan
C O'Neill
Jarly og

Crealy
O O'Neill

Campbell
Grugan
Murnin

Nugent
R O'Neill
Turbitt

That's the team id go with

Leave R O'Neill and murnin up front at all times and have Nugent and turbitt on 45 the rest drop back.

If 6 defenders and 2 midfielders and 2 forwards isn't enough to defend we don't deserve to win lol
