Won well and I couldn’t honestly say we played that well
Great result with plenty to work on. Wouldn't be getting carried away with anything with AI series coming up.
Winning Ulster would be fantastic and I think it's time we just stepped forward and did that - a realistic chance for silverware.
Attacking wise, we have unearthed a proper 'scoring forward' in Turbo. It's been a long time since we've had a man who would consistently give us 4-8 points a game - Stevey McD style. Rian is class but Turbo arguably gives us more as a scoring forward.
I feel that Rian should be at no.9 / no.11 when everyone fit - a class act who we want on the ball regularly.
agreed ref Rian and he is a serious asset to be pulling off the bench but he really needs to address his discipline. Plays too much on the edge for me and picked up another stupid yellow today. When it comes to the bigger games we really can’t afford to have him sent off

Yes, the man is very rash in the tackle - he needs to work on this.
Discipline is key. A monster at full forward but we need to utilise him elsewhere. If all fit, he is better served as a midfielder, along with one of the others (Crealey, McPartlan, Grimley, Sheridan etc), getting on the ball regularly and providing for the men inside who are proper 'forwards' - Turbo / Murnin etc.
He comes on unfit tonight - manages to make a goal denying save!! Just destined to be a legend this man - fair play!

I don't think Jarly Og, Mackin or McCabe would get on any of the top teams half back line, never mind being the best half back line in the country. Jarly Og wasnt great today in my opinion, ran into trouble several times and give away possession, there's not much tricks up his sleeves to be an attacking wingback .
I agree although it may be an unpopular opinion. He seems to just run in straight lines doesn’t go past people, gets turned back easily and doesn't give and go. Can take a score which is good but critically I don’t think he’s aggressive enough to play in defence.

Great win last night.
Conor ONeills first game back since his injury in Kerry
Murnin back in after his injury v Tyrone
Rian back in after his injury v Galway
Jarly Og seemingly starting last minute - not easy to do
Barry McCambridge, arguably Armaghs best defender this season, is replaced last minute by Jarly Og.
Aidan Nugent & Callum Cumiskey getting more game time.
Crealey and mcPartlan doing well in midfield - Ben has only been playing the last two games so more gametime got into his legs.
No TK or James Morgan from the last day.
The squad is getting tested and is responding

Great first half - Cavan were always going to test Armagh in the second half.
The variety of Armaghs kick outs this season is vast and last night looks like one or two were tested
Turbo is flying and I think we need one more forward to chip in.

I thought Cavan taught us an abject lesson on the importance composure. In future games, when we are under pressure and scrapping we will need to show more composure with the chances we do get than Cavan did.

We won pulling up and didn’t look great when we were pulling up. But the positives of the first half outweigh the more worrying signs from the second.

I hope we are working on a varied kick out that we will need to deploy when playing against better opposition. But we roll on.

Today will give us some indication of what sort of quality we will face in the semifinal. The signals to date would indicate that it could be poor enough. The draw has been kind. We need to exploit that.

Thats cause their not backs apart from McCabe,Burns is wasted in centre back line plus he runs into traffic too must & doesn't release the ball quickly enough I've had enough of him in that position now should be playing midfield from now on

Think Mackin and McCabe ideal half backs, both good defenders and get through a serious amount of work and winning dirty ball, also good to pop up with scores. Mackin and Jarly Og also very good in the air.

Jarly Og a brilliant footballer, not sure where you would play him though, awful habit of going into contact and lying down, sometimes the ref gives him the free but a lot of the time he doesn’t get it.

I think he was brilliant last year from half back but hasn't been nearly as good this year I would keep him there and hopefully he recovers his form, if we are struggling in middle put him in there, like crealy obviously doesn't have 70 mins in him at the moment so why not put burns in there and bring on a half back then. We shouldn't be struggling for kick outs when we have murnin and Rian with 2 midfielders and jarly og and mackin in half back, just need to work on them a bit more

Sssshh! Can you hear a bandwagon in the distance? Yip, Armagh are back at Clones, our virtual home ground in the noughties!

Last night, a measured controlled first half with a crucial goal at the right time, gave us the breathing space to test out our defensive strategy in the second period.

And Cavan only managed the same tally in the second half as they did in the first, so a good night’s work.

With eight days before our next outing, the second half was not the time or the place to play too many cards.

We are beginning to see the green shoots of how we may play in the All-Ireland Championship, which is the ultimate focus for the team.

Don't want to be negative but the kick out yesterday again , banging the ball down the middle looking for the flick on if it works it a goal chance but often then not its just cleaned up by the oppositions half back line , plus when we went short on one I think Sheridan lost possession and only for Rian's clearance it would have been a goal , we need to learn from other teams how they get it out so successfully .

Although we have a separate thread What If Rian doesn’t save that attempt on goal? We might not be sitting here as winners.

Great first half but poor second half and game management was dreadful. We have enough to beat Donegal or Down but the physicality round the centre 3rd is a concern. Even with Rian in there we don’t have enough size and strength for the long run. Long kicks do not work, we need to work on securing possession

Agreed. Need Grimley back asap and need more from Rian, Crealey, Mackin and Jarly Og on kickouts. Think that long kick and flick on could work and will get us goals this year but need a plan b.

We won by 5 points, and quite comfortably - but little things could have turned the game - Was Ben in the square for his goal? Rian's diving save prevented a goal. Cavan kicked 20 wides.
Add to these we were cleaned out on our own long kickouts in the 2nd half.
So - work to do and things to improve on.
16 wides. None of which weee kicked from the ‘scoring zone’ according to Cahair okane. Armaghs defence deserve credit for that
