Ulster Championship 2024

Championship wide open now for sure, I would have the winners of Tyrone/Donegal down as Favs, with Armagh in third place. However on the day any of them could produce the goods. My concern is that I am not sure what Armagh will turn up on Saturday and with the results at the weekend it will only spare Down on in terms of belief.

Armagh must start with a huge intensity here and impose themselves on the game otherwise it could be an uncomfortable evening. On paper Armagh win but that means absolutely fook all. The prize is an Ulster title against a beatable Donegal or Tyroe team. I think anyone in Armagh GAA circles would have broken someones arm at the start of the year had they told you they would be in this position.

Regarding the weekends game, I thought they were actually a breath of fresh air as things had become a little stale to say the least. It was great to see Donegal bring Derry back to earth in a result which really confused me. Donegal looked fitter, stronger and were tactically streets ahead. I couldn't believe the keeper was caught out 3 times for the goals. A lad remarked to me that Harte maybe wanted out of the blood and thunder until the later stages of the overall championship (Which Derry have the potential to be) but this isn't Hartes style, surely he didn't want to be the understudy to McGuinness, surely he didn't want the keeper to make a balls of things like this, surely he could see the kickout was killing them and with that squad could have changed things up? I am still undecided and I guess we will never know.

Tyrone/cavan was also a clinker, Tyrone just slightly better for me and the team to beat now in the Ulster. Seeing Cavan in the league I can't imagine or understand how they improved that significantly. I think Tyrone thought the game was over and took the foot off the pedal, the black card further added to Cavans Belief. Hampsey again involved in something silly, when will this lad learn to stay out of the silly things.

All in all I'm praying we can dispatch of Down on saturday as we should and head into an Ulster final with huge optimism where we will be the underdog and all the pressure on Tyrone of Donegal. I woud love to see those lads get an Ulster title. Attention will then turn to the row for tickets and the headaches getting in and out of Clones, all of which I am looking ofrward too.

Tyrone would want to be worried conceding that score against an average Cavan team.

Calling it now, the winner of us vs Donegal makes an all Ireland semi if not final.

Another bad Memory , beaten by a point , they kicked a 50 as it was then as well that lets say should never have happened , the only positive thing was I saw myself on the highlights that night :)
So, it’s confirmed! Me and you are not the same person :p Because I don’t recall seeing myself on TV that night. Phew!:D

That was a scorching day, I remember that. Plenty of knotted hankies on heads was another memory from that day. Came home gutted again, thinking I’d never see Armagh win an Ulster title.

Armagh should learn from the Cavan game. Tyrone were well ahead, but they let Cavan back into it. We are quite capable of easing up and doing this, we need to press on throughout the game. We can bring on substitutes, but they need to work.
On an aside, it would seem that Div 2 was pretty decent. Cork and Cavan gave a good account of themselves against Kerry and Tyrone, and of course Donegal did even more than that.
