Armagh should learn from the Cavan game. Tyrone were well ahead, but they let Cavan back into it. We are quite capable of easing up and doing this, we need to press on throughout the game. We can bring on substitutes, but they need to work.
On an aside, it would seem that Div 2 was pretty decent. Cork and Cavan gave a good account of themselves against Kerry and Tyrone, and of course Donegal did even more than that.
Cavan were a different team in the league to what they are now. Cork were good in the league when they got going as we saw. Looks like the league final was at least partially shadow boxing.

yep they must have put the Choc Ices price up by a punt that day old lad said 'No chance' or was it a maxi twist ....
Ah jeez Willie, you’re bringing back the aul memories now.

I couldn’t get over the price of minerals and bars back then at matches in Clones. Maybe 50p for a Twix, when we could buy them for maybe 20p or 25p.

Ah I miss the aul Punts. Especially the big noisy £1 coin. You felt like you actually had something of value.

Anyway, back to religion football...

Cavan only got back in to it because of the black card. Lets not pretend otherwise

Where is all this praise of Tyrone coming from? I think they aren't overly great - a team in transition for sure.
They are dangerous inside with D canavan and McCurry. The rest are very average. Lots of new faces who still are yet to prove themselves.

I would love to see Tyrone beat Donegal (not going to happen because we would wipe the floor with Tyrone by 5+ in the final

Yeah Tyrone are shite but they are equally capable of catching us. Look at the 2 games last year.

The more I think about the Ulster final should we get there, I think we have to fancy are chances. We have been more consistent than both of these over the last few years, I think Tyrone have a higher ceiling than us and Donegal but they have a lower floor also, I think I'd fear Tyrone's forward line way more than Donegal, but Donegal have some fantastic long range shooters and devastating runners that can cause us problems, but we have played against teams that defend deep and counter at speed the last few years, Monaghan and Derry specifically, I think we would score a high tally v Tyrone but would it out score their forwards? That is the question, the Donegal game would be a nip and tuck game that would be similar to games we have had in the past but surely we learn from those games now, we have played Donegal 2 times already and we played ok in 1 and terrible in the other, got ourselves in a position where we should of won both games but won neither, if we play Tyrone I'd want Rian at full forward as the kick pass to him will be on but against Donegal I'd want him in midfield I think as it will be more defensive and he is a great long range shooter. Both games are intriguing and are 50/50 games this would be a great opportunity to win silverware that could give this team a boost and confidence to go to another level, I want optimistic about playing Derry in a final tbh so this improves our chances

I’d also prefer a Tyrone final because it’ll be more of a shootout, mcgeeney and McGuinness will try to out tactic each other and bore us to tears.

But let’s not pretend Tyrone are bad. A combined 15 with us would be fairly 50:50 if everyone from both teams were fit. Their young lads have been involved in all Ireland and ulster finals at underage so they aren’t bad they’re just a bit young yet. I don’t think they have an AI run in them, especially if Harte or Kilpatrick are out, but they definitely have the fire power to win an ulster final on the day if they can get past Donegal.

Lads we are setting ourselves up for a fall here
Anything can happen in Ulster championship and although I think we are far superior outfit to Down, freak results happen all the time.

I just hope the players are not as complacent as the fans !!

Agreed but even Downs worst teams have a history of pulling a big result out of the bag every now and then.
Very easy for the complacency of the supporters to rub off on the team
I would put talk of opposition in the final on hold until this game is over
I’m sure the team have the heads screwed on and won’t be taking Down lightly. They’re shite but if we play as shite as we are capable of they’ll beat us. I’m sure theres enough even in terms of boys wanting to keep jerseys for later in the year to ensure a performance. No harm in us being complacent as long as the players aren’t.

But as Armagh Martin said above, if we can’t beat them then we may just quit

Agreed. I could see McGeeney over complicating things vs Donegal which would hinder our own game. We don't have a great record in these type of game where we play very conservable

The consensus on here before Donegal won was that we should and could win Ulster. By my reckoning that Donegal win should actually make it somewhat easier for us but that being said we still have to go out and do it.
Now what way does that set us up in the all Ireland series as Ulster Champions?
