It was mentioned to me at the match how Cross - Hanratty excluded - stood of Coalisland much more than they did playing in Armagh Champion ship. The theory being is that Armagh referees let much more go in games. Possibly 3 our if 4 sending off probably wouldn't have been sendìngs off in Armagh. Assuming this is true is the refereeing in Armagh a contributory factor to the number of frees Armagh give away at county level?

I didn’t see why number four got sent off but won’t comment, thought the other 3 seemed harsh enough unless I missed something.

Although Coalisland kicked serious poor wides also.

Agreed but they were pressured by our defence and also they were technically not the greatest on the night. Poor shots, dropped balls, repeatedly spilling simple solos. They were caught up in the whole ‘dark arts’ that they lost focus I believe. Feigning injury, spitting, trash talking, bullshit of throwing the balls into the field etc .... if they had focused on football they might have won!

Hanrattys two yellows were deserved. Their no17s second yellow was deserved. Didn’t see what true first one was for. It happened after they got a free.

Does anybody think the cross tactic of the long ball in was very predictable and easily cut out while they got more joy out of running at them.

It jumps out at me every time I watch Crossmaglen play. Aaron Kernan is an absolute Rolls Royce of a player.
From an Armagh point of view, it's a terrible shame that its now 4 years since he was on the county panel. Also, surely he's still one of the top half backs in the county? The way he was galloping up the pitch in the final few minutes, he's certainly not lacking in fitness. Hopefully the 2 ONeills will be on board this year as well.

Having watched highlights on BBC I am still not convinced the 3 double yellows were definite yellows. On other occasions a warning would have been issued.

I watched them there too. Given the context of the game each booking was probably a fair enough one....Johnny Whaa’s probably the most unfortunate but he had 2-3 before that so there was a cumulative effect as well. The ref was always going to ‘even’ things if he got half a chance and that’s inevitable. Their no17 was booked very early for dissent and his second booking was a very clear late tackle on Oisin O Neill. Their no 4 was heard using abusive language by the umpire and rightly got a red. Callum has a very high elbow. Was right in front of me. He was on a booking already and there’s very little the ref could do.

As Aaron said it hopefully is a good learning curve for our boys. Ulster championship is a dog eat dog world and every opportunity must be taken. Last night won’t win a semi

I know were you are coming from but I will still think they would not be yellows in Armagh - especially if Faloon is ref!
For the first sending off Brian Toner was slightly late. By the book it is a yellow but Hanratty had got away with a few before that and if the referee had have issued a warning then he might have stopped the toxic atmosphere that followed for next 10. As you say Hanratty was very unlucky for his second yellow. As for Comiskey I felt he was being fouled and was trying to break free and caught the player in doing so. It was not a petulant action. To be fair at the time my thoughts on it were probably influenced by the over reaction of the Coalisland players. For me if you are fouling or acting the maggot you deserve all you get.

The ref took direction from the linesman for that second yellow. He was either happy that your man didn’t mean it or didn’t see it originally

As BCB said it was a high elbow, and with the other team down 2 you need not to provide an excuse for cards. Some of Cross' yellows were pointless in that there was no benefit from the action that led to the card. You need to keep your men on the field and get your revenge on the scoreboard.

I taught it was stupid of cross being up 15 men to 13, not to take more boys on yellows off, knowing well the referee would take any chance to try and even the numbers up.

Kernan is still superb and would walk into the Armagh hb line the way he is playing at the minute. His interception late on when they were looking a goal and his late bursts up and down the pitch late on was a joy to watch.

Both O’Neill’s are serious players and fair play to Rian he kept the head last night when he was being targeted off the ball.

Well they're from the wrong side of the Blackwater river, wouldn't expect anything else!
