Haven’t been on in a while but thought I’d awaken from the dead to login. Let me guess, two wins in last two matches and even thorough I haven’t been on in like 3 years I’ll guess no posts from the likes Shiftya & bbc1 when we get a win but immediate posters when we lose. Am I right???
A bit harsh on BCB1. I always found him to be fair with his criticism. That other guy you mention though.....

Sorry Pat, I was trying to scare DooReg into thinking BCB1 had gone to the big Ulster Championship in the sky ;) but then BCB1 went and spoiled the whole joke. What's wrong with the people that they just won't pretend to be dead nowadays!!!:rolleyes:

Flip sake @bcb1 - what are ye like!:D

The big Ulster championship in the sky :D I wonder if they’ve any crowds at that?

3 games in the last 3 weeks and we have achieved the goal of promotion and beaten derry. Donegal up next and conditions likely to be atrocious again. We really have to get the line up right, and if we do we will have a fighting chance in this one. Rian at FF, id move Oisin to chf, Grimely at midfield, sheridan to partner him, donaghy at chb if fit. We need direct powerful runners for this one. We also cannot understate the importance of Campbell here, hes as strong as an ox and a dorect ball carrier. I really dont think this game will be won with long early kick passing, Donegal will be cute to that, we need to carry the ball this time and break tackles. I dont fear this Donegal, take out the trouncing in the AG about 5 years back and we have run them close in the league and championship otherwise. We have a chance, christ I even think we have a decent chance. Strong running with the ball, support players off the shoulder, itll be scrappy but we will be there or there abouts.

I’m going to disagree with that.

the obvious line when taking on the big boys is that you have to mix it.

donegal will be favourites and I think they would love it if we packed in our direct kick passing game and carried it. Even the fastest player is moving the ball slowly when they carry it through the middle. Go early with plenty of width and exploit the mark. If it’s not working and we have to carry it or put it through the hands then it’s really important that Rian, Oisin and Soupy are on hand around the 40.

but moving the forwards around would look like a sensible option. The bigger men in the Donegal full back line might be comfortable coming out the pitch but I don’t think their wing backs want to be back there as direct man markers as opposed to sweepers.

Brilliant win. Tough conditions in unfamilar pitch and favourites

did well to dig our heels in when Derry got tales up

mentioned by a few on here and maybe before but think Armagh players are used to a different standard of referees
People here thinking some tackles should be let go but I think on balance that Hursom is very very good ref
He had 1 or 2 towards end when we surrounded player that he give as Free’s for Derry and not for us but over all I thought he was good

I don’t blame refs in Armagh btw think rules are too loose or sometimes too strict and then a lot is left up to the ref on the day

Yes we seem to be moving in the right direction mostly due to the quality forwards the team has and also the likes of Niall Grimley in midfield who looked much better once he came on and Aidan Forker who seems to be a class act. But we also have a lot to be concerned about. We managed to go 20 mins without scoring yesterday and if Derry were anyway more clinical they would of beat us. This is a recurring problem we've been struggling with for years. The goalkeeper while he had a great game yesterday has been inconsistent and I suspect he will struggle to get kickouts away against a much more organized Donegal outfit, I'm hoping I'm wrong. While the defence looked solid yesterday they have really been shown up by the better forward units they've faced and Donegal will by far the best they'll come up against this year and I expect they will really struggle. Mcgeeney is the biggest limiting factor with this Armagh team, totally tactically inept and while he remains this team will never realise its potential. Armagh - Donegal prediction: Donegal by 7 points.

To his credit he was quick to make sub changes in the last few games. I just feel he needs to be ready with plan A, plan B and Plan C when things go wrong. It is a difficult question to answer but have we got a soft mentality? or is it because the opposition figure us out and we don't make the necessary tactical changes?

to be fair once Armagh went down to 14 players they controlled the game for the 10 minute period, last year we would have lost that game.
for me i thought mc Geeney did well yesterday and we had a plan which worked.( we were also the only ones creating goal chances)
we need murnin and donaghy fit for the Donegal game and genuinely i think we have a fair chance to win it.
we are not that fair away from them.

Don't want to be a voice of complete negativity but we're going up against a team who are the second best drilled in the country, in terms of their system. They'll be physically much bigger and stronger around the middle, they will try and nail us on the counter and they will put a serious, serious press on our kickouts. We will be doing well to get primary possession when you consider a) Patton's talent at finding his own men and b) the pressure they'll put on our KOs, alongside their very clear size advantage in the middle third.

It's been a decent three weeks for us, but we've only beaten Clare and Derry and both times we came close enough to making a bollocks of decent positions. It's going to take the best Armagh performance in many, many years to get us even close to these big lumps.

Am not sayin it's beyond us but anyone thinking that Andy Murnin or Brendy Donaghy are going to suddenly appear and be difference makers against this Donegal team need to put the bucky down!

Donegal are a good side but they’re no world beaters. IF we played to our potential for a full 70 minutes we’ll put it up to them. We’ve players in that forward line that any team in Ireland would be glad of and if we can sort the obvious issues and get one or two lads back in the team we won't be far off.

I don’t think it’s negative to point out the strengths of the opposition.

In my view if the game becomes one of moving the ball up and down the pitch by hand and running off the shoulder then Donegal win, probably comprehensively.

the more of the game that has forwards in forward positions and defenders in defensive positions the better chance we have. That means moving the ball quickly. Luckily it’s one of strengths of the players at our disposal.

we know Donegal are as good as anyone at smothering the opposition. We need to spread our attack wide to counter this. That should also aid the kicking game.

Some of our forwards will win their individual battle. Some won’t. But let’s win the tactical battle and give the players their best chance.

And no cheap cards please. Every individual battle will be physical. A yellow card is a handicap the player can’t afford. The inevitable substitution that follows ties the hands of the manager. Donegal have a superb range of free takers. They won’t miss many and probably none. Discipline is key. Though thankfully Donegal now have to give serious consideration to that same issue.

Donegal are easily in the top 4 teams in Ireland, probably top 3.

Dublin, Kerry and that’s all in my opinion who are better than them. Galway on their day can be devastating but they are hot and cold.
That’s the level we want to get back to. Lads will be absolutely buzzing for this game. There will be no easy games in D1 next year.

Just FYI guys, I'm trying to be realistic rather than pessimistic! I think Donegal are a good bit ahead of us for 2 reasons - experience, keeper/full backs. That said I'm very happy with where we currently are and considering the overall age profile of the team bar one or two we are going to be a force again within the next couple of years.

Would you not have Mayo in there,When it comes to games against the better teams Donegal still rely on Murphy a lot

Donegal are easily in the top 4 teams in Ireland, probably top 3.
And yet they only managed to beat 3 teams of the other top 7 teams in the league this year.

Our lads need to go into this game believing that they are good enough to compete and take on the best in the country. Otherwise, genuinely, what is the point? No I'm not stupid and I don't believe it's a walk over, but with it boiling down to 15 v 15 (or 21 v 21 if you want to be pedantic) every player on their day on both teams could do enough to play well enough to inspire their teammates.

Soupy, Jamie, Andy, Rory, Rian and Connor (Turbitt) are potentially a handful for any defence to cope with if they were all available and all playing.

I'd like to send positive vibes while recognising our weaknesses. I'd agree that adding Andrew up front and Brendan at the back is not a miraculous scary "win all" solution as one [or two] players will not win a game, but you can build around them and/or let them strengthen an already good team. Despite those that don't believe this team are going anywhere, I believe they will. I believe they will surprise a few and satisfy many others. These lads are far from favourites, so don't put your house on them, but as a supporter, don't write them off either.

There are some on here that will constantly post when the team is beaten. They will snipe when they can and even in victory find a reason to justify their bitterness for whatever reason. It's a [relatively] free world and you have an entitlement to do that, but the forum is called orchard fans (repeat statement alert) certainly point out what's wrong, but at least support their efforts to try and win. Not ONE of that squad want to lose. Not ONE of that management team want to lose - more so because I'd say they would like to stay.

My honest opinion, I don't give a rats arse if they lose. I'm still gonna go to or watch the next game they play in. It's what a fan does. Don't have to like everything to think that way, but I'd much prefer them to win, especially as we're on the tougher side of the draw and by god I'd love an Ulster Final appearance to support.
