I would expect Mcgeeney to put Forker on Murphy.
I’d like to see Kennedy maybe on him.
The most important thing about whoever marks him is that when we have possession we try and put him on the back foot and tire him out by driving forward.
Sacrificing a player to mark Murphy out of the game isn’t enough.

If we could somehow do this we’d be flying. But we all know Murphy is a class act and he’ll likely have a huge influence on the game.

Yeah kinda guessed that might be the case. I suppose best option then could be to have him picking up breaking ball with a bigger lad contesting with Murphy and dropping the ball to him. I'd love to see him emerge as the next big thing we have to look up to. Been impressed with his fearless attitude so far. Seems to have fitted in real well so far. Is he a natural defender or played into that position? Only reason I ask is he looks comfortable tracking and running forward.

When we won the intermediate in 2017 and then won Div 1B in 2018 he was just out of minors and played at 11 for us. Was our main source of scores and looked a natural there. He played all his schools and underage county ball in defence (usually as a 6 I think). As we've established ourselves in Div 1A and the likes of o'hanlon have come home, he's less of a source of scores for us now and has played this season at number 6 and been brilliant.

So to answer your question I think he's a defender in the long term for club and county.

Hopefully he is back with the panel soon

Aaron Findon would be ideal for Murphy but he's not there anymore

He would be a disaster on Murphy, he fouls for fun and physically no one is bullying Murphy. The way to deal with Murphy is to deny the space around him when he is in possession. I remember watching an u16 game years ago when Conor Glass was bullying all round him. Cross doubled up on him but did it with 3-4 different players at different times. I would identify 3-4 players who would ‘spell’ each other to do that on Murphy and rotate them every 10 minutes or so to allow lads to recuperate. Assuming these 4 are all playing I would do that with Grimley, Oisin ONeill, Jarly Og and Forker, maybe even Kennedy. Deny space and frustrate.

Murphy would destroy Findon. That’s not a knock on Findon, he would do it to many players. BCB gives a good way to combat him

I get why we might have to deploy two defenders on Murphy but he isn't going to be the only threat and if two of our best defenders are on one guy at anytime that leaves us seriously exposed with McBrearty and co. In addition to that we are inevitably going to pick up yellow cards - another thing we seriously cannot afford to do and they will stretch us.

As I have said before, first half will be open - we don't adapt well to change and in the second half they will suffocate the life out of us at both sides of the pitch.

Must be serious dough on offer. Kilcoo folk held him in very high regard (until now!). I'd imagine he'll be a serious loss to the armagh back room set up.

Heard that Jim has also committed to armagh for the foreseeable

Good luck to him

Don't see Burren playing 2nd fiddle, very difficult for McCorry to ride 2 horses. may have a chance in 2022 if the split season proposal gets through congress.

The split season proposal as it stands would be a disaster imo. Club preseason throughout the good weather / county season and then competitive football for the tail end of the summer and into the autumn, clubs with no floodlights would find it difficult to get meaningful training for the business end of the season. But, an argument for a different day

Don’t think those deciding care too much about logistics of clubs training

Think they think club players are getting there mileage money and going to fancy gyms and floodlit training pitches with lovely warm showers after

If GAA are to push club season into winter window they need to allocate a lot of money to bring club facilities up to standard

Only way that would work is if every club in the country is given a grant for floodlights and all weather pitcheso_O

Tbh there is no easy solution that will allow county players to play club and county football on decent pitches without them getting burned out

That's what I would have thought but was reliably told he stressed to burren that he wants to commit to armagh as well.

Live horse and you will get Oates !! In my view if you are correct Burren's schedule will be flexible to accommodate the demands of an inter county team that doesn't know when its season ends! best of luck to all parties .

The only thing the big man will stress is exactly how much queens head is required!!! No surprise seeing him back in Down given the rewards for Senior team management there...
