And one more thing. A shout out to the McKeever family and the 2 Monaghan losses. It’s a brutal world at times. Thoughts and condolences.

Thought the slap on Ciaran’s back by Kieran Donaghy after the minute’s applause spoke for us all. Can’t believe Ciaran turned up today but then he is made from different stuff from me

Take a look at any inter County match - the bear hug style tackle is common place

I thought Armaghs tackling this year was excellent and also today
Monaghans scoring in the first half was unreal - heard someone saying only one wide in the first half
To concede 4 goals the way we did - is that a player issue, coaching issue, opposition tactics or all three?
Forker steadied the ship but it was after the damage
We need a good CHB - do they exist?
Up front it's frightening what we have at our disposal and only for poor passes at the wrong time I felt there was another few goals coming

We scored 23 times today but goals win games

If someone told you last year that we would get promoted, stay in division one and probably should make and win an ulster final you'd still be laughing

Rian O'Neill is a special talent and with turbo, soupy, Ross mcquillan, jemar, Rory grugan, murnin, tiernan Kelly, Conor O'Neill, jarly og, oisin O'Neill, Forker, ciaron ohanlon, aidan nugent, Mark shields, ethan rafferty, James Morgan etc about we are in great shape
And I note I haven't included blaine, Shea magill, connaire macklin, Greg mccabe, Jack grugan, niall Grimley, Ryan kennedy maybe callum cumiskey and others the future is bright

Monaghan have ten years plus in div one - we have had half a season

To play in that heat today is a huge testament to both sets of players

Finally the sad passing of Monaghans u20 captain last night puts everything into perspective - a family is sitting tonight mourning the passing of a son

Let's leave it at that

Yup. The bigger picture, and all that. It’s only football at the end of the day.

Oh come off it, you surely watched the first half of that game? We were worse than dire, it was appalling and it is all down the McGeeney telling players to push up on the goal kicks. It took four goals for him to realise where it was going wrong for us. Serious question, how many years will it take before people on this forum take their heads out of the sand and realise we have a limited manager when it comes to tactics? Why are we pushing up on goal kicks when there has been absolutely nothing this season or any season where he has been in charge to suggest we have a decent defence? This issue has been on going for years now and he has failed to fix it. If we had a defence we would not have conceded FOUR goals and we would be in an Ulster final.

You know what, instead of sitting here debating about McGeeney staying or going - how about we give him a 7th year in charge and when we come to this time next year we will have this same argument about our defence not working out for us or how he has managed to mess things up tactically again - just like we have for the last 5. Another year will be wasted with an incredibly talented team - which to McGeeney's credit he has done a great job putting together - well definitely not defence.

Honestly, I dont care if I ruffle peoples feathers on this forum because I am apparently one of the "Anti-McGeeney" brigade which I am not. I am being quite measured in how I criticise him, where I see the faults in the team and what patterns keep appearing. We have created this illusion for ourselves as fans that we are making progress and the league is the measure whilst in the championship we are simply crap.
‘We were worse than dire and it’s all down to McGeeney telling players to push up on the goal kicks.’

I am gonna take issue with this and I will tell you why. Let’s look at the first goal. It came from a free kick. Quickly taken and goes to McManus who does McManus things. Why did we concede the free? Because one of our players fouled the ball picking it up off the ground. A basic error. Nothing to do with McGeeney.
second goal. The keeper, and I’m not gonna castigate him, makes a mess of the kick out and they get a goal. Nothing to do with McGeeney.
So as you can see it wasn’t all dow to McGeeney telling them to push up on lockouts.

Plus it wasn't off the ground - poor referee call

Yes, our defence could have been better, but Monaghan’s play was very good first half. Quick hands, and incisive decision making.

We should be proud of the lads for battling back in that heat. It was there for the taking, but there was 4 sloppy passes that led to Monaghan attacks. And in the end a couple of probably soft, but needless frees got Monaghan over the line.

I’m gutted, because we deserved at least ET, even though it would’ve been tough going in that heat.

Anyway, I always say we shouldn’t get too high after a win or too low after a defeat. So let’s not get too low tonight.

And as mentioned earlier, football takes a distant second place for three families this week. Yes, we’re disappointed, but it’s only a game.

We’ll be back...

Maybe I am just totally naive & completely tactically unaware (highly likely ) but am I the only 1 who thinks pushing up on the kickout would have been the correct strategy?!?! Pressure them in their final 3rd of the pitch rather than letting them run at us until in our half, letting them build the whole way up the pitch? Surely better to put in a tackle that may cost us a free in their half than in our half presenting a scoring opportunity or more positively a turnover ball for us closer to their goals.

When you have a keeper like Beggan who can kick it over the press it’s a risky strategy

Yeah we definitely played a high risk strategy and it just didn't pay off!

When we were 2 up, we gave away 3 scorable frees to lose the game which came off sloppy passes. We only have ourselves to blame and I'd say Ciaran, Ciaran, Keiran and Keiran were pulling their hair out at that stage.

We were a couple of points off a great season. I think this management team deserve a final shot with possible back door next year.

Question would you rather watch Armagh play the way they did against Monaghan or the defenceive stuff against Antrim,Donegal?

There has to be a balance. All out attack and all out defence isn't going to work. I would just prefer to have a decent defence.

Ok, my thoughts..
First well done to both teams for playing the game of the championship In heat that i found it hard work watching the game. Well done to Monaghan on playing the game giving the absolute tragic news they woke up to.
First half it was just mistake after mistake and Monaghan could do no wrong.
Second half we completely fought back and could have took the game a few years ago we wouldn't have even gotten close too getting back into it. We went into lead and that probably makes it harder to take. Few bad passes and silly frees at end but it happens it just happened at the wrong time.
Geezer is not at fault for those and I believe he should be given another year. Maybe I'm in wrong but I thought we got alot right today just errors cost us
Rian o'neill is one of best players in country at the moment.
I'm gutted and it's hurts but after tragedies in my own community and Monaghan just sit back and be greatful we got to enjoy an amazing game. Up Armagh and thanks for keeping me entertained during isolation given me something else to discuss

First point -i thought the game should have been called off today, but fair play to everyone who took part- it could not have been easy.
First half - disastrous defending, so naive. This is what i find so surprising with Geezer - howcan he leave it so wide open ?
Great forward play - until we went ahead!
Then - fear of winning!!!
A few attacks where we doubled back - and Monaghan went up the field and won frees.
What a comeback it 'could have been'.
Re the future - never mind a forwards coach, what about a defensive coach,?
