What ifs

One for the oldies and one which plagued me for much of my youth
What if McKinstry did not get injured in 2nd half against Roscommon 1980?
And...Brian Hughes had not then been moved from full forward (where he was causing havoc) to midfield to replace McKinstry

Kerry were in their prime, but I think we would have beaten them in the final that year, such was our form

In a game that Armagh was not even playing in, in 2004 Donegal played Fermanagh in a qualifier, Brendan Devanny got sent off, Martin McGrath got the equalising point and Fermanagh won in extra time although Donegal were probably the best team. Having played Donegal in the Ulster final we would not have had a quarter final against them, but instead another team and likely one that we would have taken more seriously than we did Fermanagh.

What if Oisin scored that penalty in 2002 final likely we would have went in at half time with the lead.

Would we have still went on to win the match. Going in with the lead at half time would Joe Keran have still gave the same speech

What if Gormley doesn’t block that ball and what if Jordan doesn’t collapse likes he’s shot? Genuinely believe if we did back to back we’d have won 2-3 more, the momentum that would have followed on from that would have been huge, the 2004 U21 team would have been adding to a winning machine and the 2009 minor team would have followed that on. The 2003 final bill as the big what if….

Been a good while since I posted on the forum so there's my tuppence worth.
What if Diarmaid Marsden had not been sent off by Brian White in the 2003 final as a result of Philly Jordan's mad dash towards him, before going down feigning injury as if he had been struck. Although Diarmaid was eventually cleared of any offence, nevertheless that sending off undoubtedly cost Armagh the final.

What if Greg McCartan hadn't got sent off against Tyrone in the 2003 Ulster Final when Down were cruising?

What if the ref hadn't give Tyrone a nothing penalty in the same match that was central to their comeback? Back then, defeated provincial finalists were back out in a qualifier a week or two later and were almost invariably beaten.

What if Paddy Russell had played the two minutes of injury time indicated rather than let Mugsy and Wee Peter run down the clock discussing the last free in 2005?

What if Paddy Russell had reffed those injury time minutes as he had the first seventy, rather than waiting for an opportunity to give a nothing free kick (tug of the sleeve) to avoid at all costs yet another replay?

What if John Bannon hadn't given Fermanagh a series of handy frees out of sympathy, in the first half of 2004, when Armagh looked like running away with the game, which left us within catching distance when Enda was sent off?

Believe me. I could go on and on and on.

I wouldn’t class the Fermanagh 2004 as a ‘what if’ situation. We should have closed that game out but I genuinely believe we grossly underestimated a talented Fermanagh team. Even when Enda was sent off we should have closed that game out. Definitely think that was on us

Gormley had the role of tracking Marsden. He would not have had the time and space to get over and make that block if Marsdenhad been still on the field. All goes back to Jordans dive and the red card, a real sliding doors moment. Just before that happened I thought we were starting to get a grip in the game and the momentum starting to shift. If no red card, no block, we win. We might have then dominated the decade, but if Tyrone lost in 03, they would have been morally crushed in a way they never would recover from. They threw everything into winning that year

What if Armagh bowed out early of the Ulster championship early leaving them 6 weeks to prepare for the All Ireland.

No doubt it was BC, but check out the frees that Fermanagh got in that first half, which were soft in the extreme, at a time when it didn't look as if it would matter.

What if Kieran McNally had have been put on to McGuigan earlier? Would he have got the famous 11 points that day?

What if Conor Gormley didn't make that block v Stevie in 03? What if Marsden wasn't sent off after Philip Jordans cowardly dive in 03?

Will never forget Gormley clapping as Marsden is red carded. I can't stand Tyrone at times.
