We didn't have our full focus on that game and still should have won-but that series of soft frees awarded to Fermanagh went some way to killing our early momentum. One of those games that where a team given little chance find themselves in the mix and get a surge-those frees did a lot to help that. And it continued through the game. I ventured a while back to watch a recording of that game (why I don't know). I can't remember the exact words-but at one point in the second half the co commentator Enda Gormley remarked that Armagh were having to work very hard to get a free and something along the lines that 'he would have been awarded a free if wearing a green jersey'. I might be doting of course and could not bring myself to re watch to be sure, but thats what it sounded like.No doubt it was BC, but check out the frees that Fermanagh got in that first half, which were soft in the extreme, at a time when it didn't look as if it would matter.
We couldn't touch Stephen Maguire their full forward without the whistle blowing. In contrast, in second half I remember Barry Owen cleaning Ronan Clarke and then falling with his knees on his back. Nada.
