I brought my two daughters and their two children to Croke Park yesterday, all for the first time, bar myself. I felt that they and I witnessed one of the greatest spectacles of gaelic football, excitement, sheer endeavour and heroics that had ever been seen there. They were completely riveted to every aspect of the game and they can't wait for the next match to support their beloved Armagh. I, their father and grandfather, feel the same.
TK got caught up in the melee. That's what happens in melees, they take on a life of their own and fellas do things that they wouldn't dream of doing in normal circumstances. I have admired TK's football since he joined the Armagh panel and I know he will get over this. He will do the right thing and take his punishment. I do think, however, that discipline is a broader issue and needs to be addressed. Agression on the sideline, pays no dividends on the field of play or on the score sheet.
Overall, my daughters and grandchildren had a fantastic day and weren't too annoyed about the melee. Like myself, they felt that Galway controlled the game for long periods and probably deserved their victory but they were brimming with admiration of the heroics and never-say-die spirit that was shown by Armagh
