14-15 behind the ball
Move the ball laterally
Keep the ball

Tell me a team that doesn't do this
Giving the ball away has never been a strategy,
Same with lateral passing I doubt there has ever been a game where a lateral pass wasn’t made
These are two very generic statements you could lump them in with try to win your own kick outs and try to score all your shots

Agree almost every inter county team will filter most players back if the oppositions build up play is slow enough to let them, but how a Kerry does this where they’ll engage you high up the field compared to Armagh who mostly retreated to behind their 45 and wait is very different

So you think every county team in Ireland has the exact same style?

Don't have the same style but there are common themes as in

14-15 behind the ball
Move the ball laterally
Keep the ball

If a team is attacking and there's no clear opportunity they'll recycle the ball and move laterally across the pitch and try another route
They'll do this until an opportunity arises( mark, high percentage scoring opportunity etc) or the opposition pushes out and dispossesses
Opposition will defend in numbers to combat this and will have various setups depending on where the ball is etc...

No point in working hard just to 'kick it in'
A team that doesn't drift back will/should be punished by the number of attackers.

Admittedly some teams try to keep 1-3 attackers up the field but only works if the defenders stay with them.

Football style goes in cycles but I'm not sure what the next version will look like.
Rule changes may be required such as

- between both 45m lines a kick pass must follow a hand pass
- remove the advanced mark or limit it to inside the 20m line
- I'd like to see sideline balls changed to where the person taking it can take a standing solo and then normal play resumes
- goalkeepers should be permitted to kick the ball out of their hands to restart play but only from the large square.

We may need to look at adding another referee - too many marginal decisions going unpunished
Use a time clock - one less thing for a referee to use

A ball kicked over the bar should be awarded two points
A fisted effort one point
An effort from outside the 45m should be awarded with three points
A goal should be awarded five points
In the event of a draw the team with the most goals wins otherwise extra time.
Finally if the technology is there use it eg big screen in croke park

Let's award skills and put something in place that may push teams to change tactics and reward skill.

We will never be as fast as hurling but if we want more entertainment then there needs to be a carrot

If current trends continue, I'd would agree about upping the value of a goal.

Goals have been like hen's teeth this year. I'd originally thought it goals drying up was an Armagh problem, but it's pretty much an everyone problem.

34 games to date in the Sam Maguire competition involving 68 teams - and only 5 of these have managed more than one goal*. This is way down on any other season you'd care to look at, and has to be a product of the type of football popular at present. The increased use of the advanced mark also likely a factor - an obvious unintended consequence of this daft rule.

*Notably, our AI finalists Kerry and Dublin have accounted for 4 of the 5 instances where a team has managed more than one goal - both doing it twice. Derry also knocked in 3 against Donegal in the group stages. The other 13 Sam Maguire sides all failed to hit the net twice in any of their AI games.

Can't see the rules ever being changed in any substantial way, and why should they - can't think of many other sports that have have this kind of discussion? If we start to chop and change with the fundamentals where will it end up? Playing styles come and go and the game develops. I'd like to think innovative coaches and managers with a progressive vision for how the game should be played will come to the fore a bit more in the next few years.

I would love to see a game played with these rules. It would be fast, manic, hectic end to end and most likely dramatic, not unlike hurling then I suppose. Wouldn't it be great if we had a football academy where a group of players were paid to play games where these rules and others could be trialled. Pick players from every county and have 10 teams all playing games with different rules and then at the end of the year you could decide which work and which don't. It would actually make for a great reality TV show, it would be great craic watching them. All pie in the sky I know but I need something to bring the joy back to gaelic, even if it is only in my imagination........

If O'Callagan,Mannion,Cluxon,McCaffrey had of been playing last year & 2021 Dublin would have been going for 10 in a row next year in my opinion
