I've been on both sides of the fence regarding change of management for next year. Immediately after the Ulster final and again after the Monaghan game, my feeling was that we needed a fresh take on things.
With some time, I probably now feel that McGeeney should stay for one last year.
Given we have a slightly older demographic of players, with a few stalwarts likely to retire next season, it would be better for continuity.
It also sounds like McGeeney has the players backing, and although supporters are important and the people paying through the turnstiles, you need a manager that the players are willing to play for and put in the graft.
I think if we were to change management this year, the upheaval would run the risk of the wheels completely coming off the cart - when actually what we need is some degree of consistency to push on and back into the first division again and be in contention for Ulster championship and the group stages.
And realistically? Who would replace Geezer? Can they, in one season drive the team on further? Will they have the backing of players and supporters? Are they someone we would be happy to have 2-3 seasons of as a minimum - because realistically that's the time frame most managers now need to put their stamp on a team.
And what happens if some of the older players didn't want to play for them and took retirement, what impact would that have on a team already going through a change in structure and likely style of play?
I have a feeling the club vote will go against Geezer, but if it was down to the team he would stay. Time will tell.
