Injuries definitely forced McGeeney's hand a little. He has been criticised in the past about being too late to make changes and on Saturday he was early making them but perhaps should have been a little more savvy with Jemar Hall coming off - think he made the right call will Morgan though. Out of all the injuries I really hope Forker is ok because he really is needed.

Another positive from the game is our work ethic, usually against teams we fade out in the last ten minutes. Although the last ten minutes on Saturday is where we suffered a lot of damage the team were tiring, played with 14 men and missed a penalty. Morale dropped, energy levels dropped but kept trying. Armagh were desperate for another goal whereas points with 10 minutes left would have been beneficial.

I don't like the blanket defence but it is better than having a defence forward lines can waltz through whenever it pleases them.

Anyway, time to get the heads right for Donegal.
Morgan was injured and looks like he will miss the Donegal game according to the Irish news this morning.

also, what’s this new substitution rule??,

Instead of five subs you get seven - that is the only change I am aware of but you can only make subs on five occasions if that makes sense.

So you can't make 7 different substitutions throughout the game. You will need to make 2 double substitutions at some point in the game if management intend on using all 7.

Taking the captaincy away from Campbell now would be risky as you would think his morale is down after his performance on Saturday. However, there could be an argument that he needs to focus on his own role and not worry about the team. If Forker is back for Donegal he should definitely be the captain - once a liability he is now the most consistent, calmest and productive players in this squad.
Yeah I agree completely about Soupy. It would be easy enough though if he were named on the bench and then brought on for a few games to give the lad a break and take enormous pressure off him without insulting him. His role then as a player is vital and his talent is immense so he'd be allowed to make an impact. H'e have a few minutes in whatever period he spends as a sub to work out what the opposition defence tactic is. He's a very smart lad and could form his own plan along with his coach. That would possibly make him a very dangerous player. It's not how we start that's vital, important as it is, it's how we finish. After all it's only the final score that counts.

Again with Forker you're spot on. Anybody even hearing a whisper?????

Yeah I believe that's correct. Five changes with two of them being allowed to be doubles so 7 in total.

I think we were caught out with it when Soupy was taken off as we could have had another, but possibly thought it wasn't needed.

It certainly looks like we've adapted the same rule that Kerry have (and others over the years) so that when you get a yellow, you get a break to reduce the risk of being down a permanent player. Can think of no other reason for Jamar and Stefan to leave the field. Timing was just poor for Jamar as I'd be certain the change was arranged before he got the score and just happened at that time. We've seen that happen to others in the past.

I'm working late on Saturday so won't get to see it, so hopefully no-one will notice me following Twitter.

Have not read article itself but Irish News has a headline that for Sat we will be missing four defenders that include Forker. Hope that is wrong.
Forker was given the responsibility of captaincy previously and it was the making of him. That was a really astute move by management back then. Agree totally about Soupy

Ah shy(rhymes with bite)

Aidan Forker is a completely transformed animal now. He even brought that positive attitude to his club and I believe it was a big part of their recent success.

I honestly think these lads now have a bit of belief in themselves. The fact that a high profile player like Donaghy is prepared to travel all the way from the bottom of the island to the top, regardless of what some will rightly say about his "expenses". It's a long way, just to be seen as a failure and travel back. That alone is bound to have a positive mental impact on the team. It is and it will make changes. Many called for a change, including myself I'll admit. Those changes have now been made and we're just two games into the current run (ok 3 if we count the challenge against Meath, but I don't think that is a marker of any kind).

We can and could, maybe most likely will win on Saturday evening. Imagine how that would set us up for Ulster in a few weeks. A defeat against another top team is bad, but not a disaster, as long as we don't get wiped out. We just need to be wary of the backlash from their poor performance for 60 minutes at the weekend. They need the positivity as much as we do, maybe even more. Interesting times indeed.

2 games in and we are doing ok. If you want to the spend the time picking over the deficiencies in the performance against Monaghan there will be things to pick up. Again if you want to find signs of progress in the defeat to Tyrone there is also something to go on.

The key for me is that we are not messing around in Division 3 or against some of the weaker teams in Division 2. This is where we need to be and where we need to fight to stay.

We need to give a strong account of ourselves against Donegal and show improvement and nouse that was missing last year but really the big game is the likely game against Roscommon. If the players who got knocks against Tyrone could be back for the Roscommon game I would take it.

one big learning point has to be the concession of needless yellow cards. It doesn’t just hamper your own ability to take a risk but it restricts the manager’s options. It’s just inexcusable. That goes for experienced forwards as much as the defenders.

Final point. Watching on TV is rubbish. Maybe croke park with all its cameras might work but league matches at county grounds, well as the saying goes, you had to be there

Yes absolutely Peter. Yellow cards are fine in the last 10 minutes or so when you're "taking one for the team" to maintain the advantage you've built.

Your final point is on the money because I think we're all missing the experience and no doubt it's the same for the players. Surely must be like constant challenge games in terms of atmosphere.

What the flip? You have to make two double substitutions? Who made that rule up?

Our support play has improved massively from previous seasons and that Harte goal was a sickener after watching it again

Just watched the highlights there again.

Tyrone’s disallowed goal given as square ball... Donaghy didn’t seem to be in the square when original shot was taken, but was in the square when the ball was ‘passed’ back to him by the crossbar.

I’m thinking it should have stood? Surely the hall hitting the crossbar isn’t considered a pass?
