disappointing that he cant commit but great to have the options to mitigate - Clarke, Soupy, Forker, Hall, R Grugan, J Grugan, R O'Neill, O O'Neill, Murnin, Ethan Rafferty to come back during league, Grimley can play in HF line, McQuillan, O'Hanlon, Nugent, McShane, Duffy...... Not only a long list of talent but plenty of different styles in the mix as well. Serious competition for 6 (maybe 5 with a sweeper) spots

You would imagine first game would be Saturday 29th.

But in all seriousness what sort of Christmas are all these players going to have?

unusual timing but realistically the McKenna is going to be fringe players and new faces trying to make it into the squad, I'm sure they'll be more than happy sacrificing the Boxing Day sesh if they get on the pitch

It's not a Championship game ffs I'm sure they can go out over Christmas and then play a game in two and a half days time. I always taught I'd play a bit better when I had a few pints before the game to calm the nerves anyway.

eh, ok. I was responding to JoeH asking "what sort of Christmas are these guys going to have" rather than advocating abstinence.

They shouldn’t have to sacrifice this. It’s absolutely ridiculous if they are seeing as they’re young amateurs. If they are expected to then the whole thing is messed up

sure isn't the minor final on new years day, when do crossmaglen play

Not sure when the first game is. It’s normally round about the first or second week of December. There’s a bit of a difference between going for an Ulster championship and playing in a pre season competition. And let’s face it as minors the majority will be under 18 so they won’t be drinking anyway ....

McGeeney might have them out training on Christmas morning.

Anyway, I’m sure it doesn’t take 4 days to digest a turkey or nut roast (have to be inclusive to those vegetarians, don’t ya know)..

I think it is time the McKenna Cup competition was discontinued, it has outlived its usefulness. As Eireogatron says it will be used mostly to look at fringe players. Surely the Armagh management do not need to look at such players, if they do not know the best 30 players in the county after five years in charge there is something very wrong.
