I don’t get people who rewatch losses. I never do. Once is enough
same here - turned on the Sunday game last night just to hear the panels view on the game. Then seen they had Lee Keegan on so switched it straight back off. I cannot listen to the droll that comes out of him. and Paul Flynn aint much better.

I enjoyed the match yesterday but I thought Armagh showed much good work during the game. They had chances to win. They have another gear. We saw that in Croker against Dublin last year. They don’t always make it easy for themselves and no team will want to take them on. Hopefully they can make the necessary changes for the next 3 matches. Discipline is one of those!!

I rewatch losses.

In terms of endeavour I thought we were the better team. We moved the ball better and stood up well to the physical contest.

But 3 things that cost us were inaccuracy ( basically wides), indiscipline (pointless niggle and “afters”) and game management.

Great player though Rogers, and his 2 points were majestic, Derry’s goal was a fluke. And we spent most of the game chasing that 3 pointer down. The shots we missed were not gimmies where you nail them 10 times out of ten but the conversion rate needed to be higher. And if we had reeled Derry in earlier I feel we would have won.

I get the macho approach. Laying down the marker that we won’t be bullied but we are perpetually involved in self defeating acts. Frees being moved up is the obvious one but the pointless cards and ticks needs to be addressed. Any forward wants their marker on a warning. We give that away too easily.

Kick outs when defending a lead, pressing Derry when they are a man down and want to run down the clock through lateral passing all fall under game management. Derry make better decisions than us. Cue the debate as to where responsibility for that lies.

We are not far off. The material is there. Small but fundamental (not a contradiction in this instance) changes are needed.
Would agree with this. We've been saying it for years about the indiscipline and fouling/talking/getting frees moved up. It hasn't improved much and at this point it's not likely to change under the same management.

It's been said already in the post match stuff but we needed to mix it up a bit more especially in the first half. We let Derry play the game very much on their terms and we played catch up for 75 minutes. We needed to find a way to get the likes of Turbo and Andy more into the game.

Yeah disappointed with those 2 yesterday 2 class forwards but got very little out of them, were well marked in fairness.

McGeeney has to go.. Any top manager would love that Armagh squad. For me Armagh playing a high press attacking first time football are a force to be wreckoned with.. Still think he needs to give this 15 a chance :
1- Ethan Rafferty
2- James Morgan
3- Aaron McKay
4- Aidan Forker
5- Conor O'Neill
6- Greg McCabe
7- Jarly Og Burns
8- Rian O'Neill
9- Ciaran Mackin
10- Soupy Campbell
11- Callum Cumiskey
12- Jemar Hall
13- Cian McConville
14- Andrew Murnin
15- Jason Duffy

Think glass was the key yesterday, kept winning clean possession in big moments. Also we dont have the nippy man inside for the clutch moments like mc guigan, lets hope turbo or mc conville can become that player as they progress. We also seemed to force derry into quite a few basic handling errors but then where not close enough to gain possession from these. Think if we came up against them again later in the season we could do better on that front again. And then the goal, a real opportunistic shite goal to concede, i feel we will put that kind of thing right as we go forward especially with hiw tight the defence has been this year. All in all yes we could have and maybe should have won, but derry are being looked at as a top 4 or 5 team. We had disappointing days from 99, 00 and 01 before the necessary experience was gained to get over the line and while we may not lift sam this year in my opinion we will have a big say in how the championship pans out.

Glass is some player, McGuigan as well. We’re every bit as good as Derry as yesterday showed so if they’re top 4 or 5 team we’re up there as well. Totally agree with this, theres far more to come from this team as well i think

I haven't yet rewatched it, but this about describes things. One more point and one less wide and we would have been Ulster champions. Discipline was much better than in the past generally, but there slip ups. You always give away some frees, a misjudgement, something the ref sees differently, but other frees are not needed. However, you should not be getting frees moved up, there is no possible benefit in that.

Someone on another forum suggested that Armagh couldn't finish their dinner, and they certainly are not good at finishing out games.

However, we did not learn much from Antrim, Cavan or Down, we have learning opportunities from this one. We may not need those against Westmeath but we absolutely will against Tyrone and Galway

The more I think about it management decisions didn’t fully cost us the game but had a significant impact.
1) why did we start Mcpartlan on Rodger’s? Crazy thinking
2) taking Rory off and putting him back on. Young players like mcconville and kearns on bench must be gutted. Not much trust in them obviously
3) Morgan being put onto mcguigan. Feel this really cost us big time.
4) Taking 30 mins to push up on Derry kickouts. Madness

As you all will probably know, gut wrenching defeats such as yesterday comes with the territory. It's part of being an Armagh fan. You can add Clones 2023 to so many others - '80 semi-final, the '92 Minor Final, the '05 semi-final, Galway last year. A fresh wound that will develop into a scar along with all the others.

Forgive me if I don't do a post mortem. I haven't really the heart for it in any great detail and I haven't watched the match since. I will say though that the players did us proud yesterday - I actually thought Derry would win comfortably - but our lads battled throughout. I hope they can take positives from the debris.

For me, the issue that occurred yesterday, and has been our Achilles heel for a long while now, is seeing out games when we have the lead. Our great team of the noughties could. We could not, and it is a scenario that is getting repeated and repeated. For all my pride in the performance yesterday, and associated with my point about seeing games out, I just felt that we had no-one who was prepared to step up and demand the ball. There were a few half hearted runs for the last few kick-outs but Rafferty had to kick long, and it cost us hugely.

I'm devastated today, so the players and management will be this one hundred fold. I just hope they can pick up the pieces again and get the show back on the road. A quarter-final should be achievable and with a bit of luck a semi-final as well and we can get the buzz going again.

Armagh and proud!
