Not in anyway condoning what happened to Comer with what appears to be an eye gouge. There’s no place for it: It looks like he’s going to be held the victim and get away in the smoke. I hope the authorities see enough of what started the incident and find him as one of the instigators. He had a huge bearing on what happened.

Oh and on eye gouging anyone remember this? Not a word said about it. We’ll get it in the neck.

Had the chances to win the game and kicked a few bad wides from good positions although I thought Galway controlled the tempo of the game and in the end deserved the win. Thought mc cabes was a great hit when looking from the Hogan, not just as clean when slowed down but a red still harsh. Definitely an issue with discipline in general. Kelly should be expecting a lengthy suspension and although as an armagh fan it's not nice to admit it will be completely deserved. Mc Geeney defending the melee in bbc interview after the game isn't a good look either.
What’s really annoying is that we would have had such momentum coming out for extra time after the levelling score and we got involved again it’s not like we haven’t experienced it already and should have learned from past experiences.

I know it would have been great if we would have won today & having a good chance of making the Al final but I don't think we were ever winning the whole thing anyway by beating Kerry or Dublin in the final if we got there

I still can't get me head around the 2 captains getting red cards when weren't involved in the row. What rule did that Meath prick make up?

First post on the site but was regular poster on the old forum many a year ago. Still recognise a few of the names on here.

After today I felt the urge to post a few thoughts. Firstly what a match to be involved in. Don't think I have had such mix of emotions watching a match since the 2005 ulster final and replay against Tyrone.

Few thoughts on the match. First half thought we did ok and was disappointing not to go into half time with a lead. That might have given us a better springboard in the second half.

However from the 35 minute to the 70th minute Galway bossed the game and were much the better team. Think there would have been very little complaints if they won after 70 mins.

But then by God the match was turned on its head out of pure desperation more than anything. 2 strange goals that Galway could and should have prevented tbh. And the free from Rian under pressure was just top class, especially since he hadn't really been in the game.

1st half of Extra time again Galway took control and went couple points up. The free from Rian right at the end of 1st half of extra time to bring it back down to 1 at the time felt important.

2nd half armagh got the goal to go two points up. From there I think we made the mistake of sitting off Galway and conceding the kickouts. Felt if we pushed up and put them under pressure to get another point at that stage it would have been game over. But we sat off and let them get their goal. Which came from bad kick out but thought generally rafferty did well.

Then we fight back to take the lead again through Hall. Again we sat off and conceded possession. But to be fair it was one hell of a point for Galway to level.

Penalties is what it is and can't blame anyone. All about luck and we didn't have any. But don't know how everybody else felt but the whole penalty shootout felt very anti climatic. Definitely don't think going forward it is good idea for the GAA.

Final thoughts on the match is thought Galway probably the better team and deserved the win. But at the same time have with the position we were in at extra time we should have won the match. So strange feeling after the match.

Overall has been a good year. Many highlights throughout the year including beating the dubs at croker. Beating Tyrone twice and beating donegal in clones. The management deserve at least another year.

The problem which I knew would happen is many a supporter basing it on losing a match on Penalties and not the season as a whole.

Long post but that's all I had to say

ust home. Some thoughts.
1. Wel done Galway. Better team. Deserved winners. It was a smash and grab raid at the end from us. We never really got going otherwise.
2. The ref. No complaints. He gave some soft frees but against both teams. I thought McCabe made a fair but hard shoulder challenge but apparently he raised his arm so had to go.
3. The melee. Sadly we are the common denominator and while it looked like Comer was the instigator we have only ourselves to blame for getting involved. Again.
4. The gouge. I do not believe for one second, and won’t be convinced otherwise, that he meant to do that. However he did it. The pictures don’t look good and he will have to face the consequences of his own actions and take whatever ban comes his way.
6. Penalties. What more to say. Gutting to lose that way

Lastly, and it is with a heavy heart that I wrote this. I am ashamed to be an Armagh fan today. My nephew is 5. He was in the toilet with his dad. 5 grown men. Armagh supporters, got into a fight. One of them knocked my nephew over. The lad is traumatised. He will get over it but will he want to go back to a game again? Woukd you blame him if he didn’t. The guys were wearing Armagh tops. My nephew thought they were players ffs. At this stage I am not sure I want to go back to a game.

Anyway. Best of luck to Galway against Derry in the semifinal

Welcome back @stevie_06 - long time no see!

I agree with the penalties thing. Such a weird, anti-climatic atmosphere around it all. After the hectic finish, the true thing to do was shake hands and do it all again next week.

I was shaking my head all through the penalties. I thought to myself, this is no fecking way to end this. I was hoping the result was decided in ET, even if it had not gone our way. I’d rather have lost in the last minute than lose in that monstrosity the way we did.

Even if we won on penalties, it wouldn’t have been right.

I can tell you it wasn’t an isolated incident Armagh have to be one of the best supported counties in the country and I was proud to see them turn croke park orange today. Unfortunately with Armaghs success comes the band wagon of louts who have no interest in football. Some of their behaviour today really let their County down. I also had young kids with me and a brawl broke out on the middle of street on our way back to the car - the boys involved were stoned drunk. Clowns.

Something I've watched in the video is that Comer never goes to hold his eyes/face after the incident. Although in fairness he gets involved in something pretty quickly.

Has anyone seen any footage/ photos of medical attention being given to comer in that area of the pitch at that time?
The video also appears to exonerate the two red carded players but then it depends what they are reported for.

The single tunnel for both teams leaving is an issue. But perhaps heavy, heavy financial fines on county boards would stop this. Or numerous match bans put onto those involved.

Two teams sent to different stands in Croke Park sorts it out. In county grounds, home team is designated to go to center of the pitch and only head to dressing room when the away team has left the pitch. Sorts a lot of it out.

Will make a more detailed post in the morning, after watching the rerun of the game today.

One thing I will say is Rian oNeill, what a player! To step up and score that free outside the 45 to take it to extra time was unbelievable. Must be a certain all star

Looked bad for us watching the Sunday game especially for TK but we don’t need a witch hunt on the lad, a lot of shite being said on Twitter
I agree. What TK done was wrong and I have no doubt in the cold light of day the lad will be devastated. But trial by social media is the lowest of the low, random keyboard warriors trying to destroy someone is just completely wrong. Let the lad serve the ban that will come from the actions and move on.

I agree, fine the responsible county board (the dubs) for not splitting the teams to opposite sides !!

It does seem fairly obvious when you think of it, unless the post game sandwiches are only served in the hogan end for the first game.

Geezer comfortably stays on, anyone saying different needs to give their head a shake. Look at the quality of that Galway forward line, midfield & full back. I’d guess more Galway players than Armagh would make a combined team, yet we more than put it up to them. He got a bit agitated with sidebottom, who didn’t ask anything about the game, but I hope he, and our fans, stay behind Kelly despite this incident. He’s a young player who made a mistake and will face whatever the punishment is. It doesn’t need to go any further than that. He’s not the first to do it and he won’t be the last, there’s a post above of one Dublin player doing similar and I recall at least 2 incidents of dubs doing that (Philly McMahon & McCarthy) and they got away with nothing other than an all Ireland medal. For whatever reason Armagh seem to always be involved in these incidents and seem to have a pack of wolves ready to tear us apart as soon as anything happens.

It should be remembered that this Galway team also has invaluable experience our lads simply don’t have yet, winning their provincial title three times in 7 consecutive finals, compared to no senior inter county finals for any Armagh player.

Whether or not Donaghy stays on will be hugely significant for this team. It would be a real vote of confidence that he thinks there’s more to come from this panel. I think we’re massively lucky to have him, you could really see his influence and how passionate he is there today. No idea where you’d even start to look to replace him.
