Strange how they could do the semi final draw and set dates and times tonight but last Sunday they couldn't when it was possible to do so.
The GAA needs to divorce itself from RTE and either go alone with GAAGO or abandon it

I felt the first period of extra time exemplified the game and our season as a whole. We scored an early point, were set up well and worked hard to make a couple of really valuable turnovers, only to kick two really really poor wides within scoring range under little pressure. Then we gave up possession with an optimistic long ball from midfield to full forward line (which apparently we need to do more of..?). Then a very silly foul on the 21 and Monaghan tap it over to go in level when we should’ve been 3 points ahead. If we get even one of those scores and don’t give away that stupid free, no one is complaining about tactics.

Then the last free kick was another moment of madness all round. We seemed to be worried about a long ball in for a goal, but they were never going to do that. Where I was sitting we could clearly see 11 was standing free to take the easy pass from beggan. How different would things be if someone had simply went over to mark him so the pass wasn’t on and forced beggan to have a shot or even play a riskier pass.

Who mentioned high octane attacking football?
We all accept that every team now defends enmasse but the best teams also attackers. We seem to sit back far too much.

This is a supporters forum and we are all entitled to our views. I support Arnagh no matter who is involved or managing - I want the best for the team. In my view, Geezer as a manager has not got as much out of the teams over the years as he should have. I believe a top manager would have achieved more with thevplayers we have had over the last 3 or 4 years. Hence time for change. Not being vindictive- just wanting the best for my county.

Before the game, I mentioned Monaghan's defensive record this season and compared it with our own. We had been miles superior. Off the back of this, I reasoned that it might be wise to play to this seemingly obvious advantage - at least in this particular fixture.

I think the management may have been of similar mind, and I can't really fault the rationale nor the approach. Had a ball or two bounced more kindly for us at the death, as they did two weeks earlier against Galway, then we'd all have been heading up the road happy.

All that said, the inability, or refusal, to break from this caution when gifted the advantage of an extra man was just mind-blowing. We had been, as usual, very defensively solid at 15v15, so why was it thought that our spare man would be best utilised as yet another sweeper? What benefit did we gain from this approach? Why was this not the moment to commit the extra body to press the Monaghan possession higher up the pitch? These are the questions for which I would love answers.

I really don't think I've ever watched a more frustrating 10 minutes of football - it was like a slow motion car crash watching that incredible advantage being pissed away. It was just so obvious that the game was there to be won in those moments, but that fear and doubt were winning instead.

Looking to next season in division 2 I want to see more players get proper runs in the league, we can rest or give weeks off to the likes of forker Grugan Campbell and the older lads, only use when needed or keep for championship, I want to see Higgins, mcgrane, rice, mcconville, Kieran, mcquillan all start and get a run of games to see what they are like, 10/20 mins here and there is no good to them, division 2 is the perfect place for that

The game was there for the taking during this period (15-14) as It was against Derry
We refused to go for it.
Let’s be honest we played a game to stifle Monaghan rather than trust our ability , Dublin will play their game and win!
As someone said our manager over analyses the opposition when he has time to prepare which isn’t a good thing
This year was a poor year football wise all year.
Really am furious about decisions made on the line on Saturday
Even I saw Corey calling Mc manus over for the last play to discuss what was going to happen so the ball was always going to him but we kept grugan on him that’s criminal at this level and the difference between winning and losing .

After a lot of time to reflect and I have had a lot of time mainly travelling to do this I think we are out of our depth when it comes to coming even close to winning an All Ireland. I believe this because we play a horrible brand of football this year. This teams main talents come from the forward line with O'Neill, Grugan, Murnin, Campbell, Turbo, Duffy, Kelly etc yet we make a 360 degree turn towards defensive football? I get that we had to shore up our defence a bit but only slight adjustment's were needed not a complete over hall of our playing philosophy from last year. Even when playing defensive football we still lose so what's the point? We cannot close out tight games. The Ulster final this year was a prime example of where we had the win and needed to play out the last few minutes with possession. Management have their limitations and after this weekend I think they will put more of a burden on the team next year. I am not going to say anymore on the matter if they go the team could go into decline like Kildare did. If management stay then we could be wasting a once in a generation talent. I don't think they should be the ones determining their own future. Not going to be overly critical of them for the loss, the players created the opportunities but this season the football from us has been poor. Some teams have got by on having 2-3 good forwards we have more than that and are not doing any better.

As our county season comes to a close, a massive thank you to the entire squad of players, management and our loyal supporters. The commitment and effort by all is greatly appreciated.

As for the match l am left, yet again, with that gut wrenching soul destroying could have/should have won it feeling. Gutted doesn't even cover it but all Armagh fans sadly know that feeling. (Though not coming close to 2005) Trying to be positive, over the entire championship we played 8 matches: 5 Wins 2 Draws (followed by that penalty rubbish) 1 defeat. I know initial Ulster games were against lower division teams but matches still had to won. No one from our so called group of death made it to the semis and two teams from so called easier group did, not that that means anything.

I don't think penalty shoot outs have any place in Gaelic football. I think provincial finals onwards should always be a replay. Surely we can extend season by 2 weeks to facilitate this. I think a replay is the least all teams deserve.

As for time keeping I fail to understand why Croke Park at least cannot use the hooter system like LGFA. It's a win/win for all involved.

Would penalty issue + time clock have to be passed/amended at annual congress - would incoming president have any influence??

Anyways, away to wallow some more. :(

Yes, it was obvious Beggan did not want to shoot and we should have forced him to. I was shouting to push up and not let him go short because I just knew they would try to work a free closer in. Again, our line seems to get caught up in the emotions of those last plays, arguably when we need them most. Corey provided a great juxtaposition on this occasion - thinking hat always on and composure at all times.

Interesting to see if Geezer stays on as I think he has another year left? If he does he needs a whole new back room team and needs to think carefully about his no.2. That's no disrespect to the current team - they have given serious commitment to the county but I think we're all clear now that we need a freshen-up and probably best if Geezer steps away.
