Is there a distinction between rivalry and grudge?
The Down thing seems to be just linked to those in South Armagh
Tyrone is based on a strong rivalry from the noughties
Monaghan - don't know
Lapis - agreed. Their anti north bias
Donegal - a rivalry in my opinion

North Armagh here and I dislike Down more than any other county.
Donegal. Laois. Cavan. Dunno why but I just dont like them.

Good point.
For me it’s always been Tyrone. Call it a grudge, hatred, ill-feeling, rivalry or whatever, they’re top of the list.
Closely following them it’s Dublin. They’re just a different breed, a different people. Never could warm to them. Always want them beat.
Next up is Laois. There’s a bad feeling against them after certain antics from them over the years.
After that I don’t really have any ill-feeling towards any county as such. Sometimes an incident or a bad beating might stick in my head for a year or two, but generally after a while it’s sort of dissipates and it doesn’t turn into full blown hatred..

Honestly have no other grudge with another county apart from Themins. Can’t stand them or their supporters (maybe it’s to do with the other half being from there). Celebrate every win against them like we’ve won an all Ireland

Tyrone-the noughties crowd in particular. A team simply driven by sheer hatred of their opponents rather than any desire to be the best they could be. Prepared to do anything, absolutely anything to get an advantage and by doing so, opened up a pandoras box in Gaelic games by bringing the 'art' of play acting and trying to get opponents sent off to a whole different level. Brought a toxicity to the game that we may never truly be able to rinse away. Apart from that, they were OK.
Laois-Just don't get this crowd at all. Had a great time in 2003 with bunch of their supporters in a Dublin pub. From then on it went all downhill. In 2005 they just seemed to have morphed into a foul mouthed, nasty and aggressive collective -and almost any Armagh supporter I spoke to after that game had the same experience. Possible candidates for worst hosts ever, if based on experiences of Armagh fans (and players) who visited down there for league games. Remember bizarre antics for a Cross vs Portlaoise club semi in 2005. Somebody let a rooster on the field if I remember. Not sure of the point of that but it just kept in tone with the unhinged nature of the place it seems to be down there
Down-Have not been relevant or on our radar for a long time and I hope that trend will continue for a 100 years. Rivalry/grudge with Down every bit as real for people in North Armagh, as in Newry/South Armagh. As a young boy in 1977, Down represented my first encounter with real bitterness and resentment. I was beside myself with excitement at our run to the All Ireland and thought all Ulster supporters would back each other. I couldn’t understand why all the Down lads at school and neighbours originally from Down all desperately wanted us to get stuffed and were full of glee when we were heavily beaten. Didn't want us to win not even one title. And they haven't changed. Bad crowd.
Cavaaaaan-Stereotyped and the butt of jokes for being cheap and miserly. I don't want to indulge too much in sweeping generalizations, but I would say that stereotype is spot on. Miserable gits. Games with them usually involve hoards of their fans continuously chomping down on monstrous ham sandwiches supported by endless slurping of sugary tae from bottomless thermos flasks. Thats not totally the reason I dislike them. I dislike them for the far more rationale reason that they seem to really, really hate us. If you ever have a look through any of the other discussion boards, some of the most venomous comments about us come from Cavaaan posters.
So that why I don't like them. So there. Take that you Breffni feckwits. May many an Armagh victory make you choke on your ham sandwiches

Honourable mention
Derry-Might be a surprise to be mentioned on this list-but I can tell you some of their fans are a real dose, registering high on the Richter scale of ignorant loudmouths. I suppose you can say that about every county-and to be fair Derry, has much, much more decent sorts than bad. But the bad wans from Derry, are particularly bad. Joe Brolly. Nuff said. Their particular kryptonite-what really makes them goes nuts with rage is to be referred to as Londonderry. Can't blame them really. Also a tad sensitive about any insinuation regarding lack of genetic diversity in certain areas of south Derry

Have listened to few podcasts involving the Armagh and Tyrone lads from the naughties.
And on both sides they admitted it was genuine hatred towards them on and off the field. Think Oisin said he had never experienced hatred like it.
They are the only county I would say I have genuine distaste towards. Again in probably all stems from the matches over the year and numerous incidents that occurred.
Also only being 30 years old, this was what I grew up with and was probably the first proper rivalry I experienced in an Amragh Jersey.
Still remember to this day as young lad bursting into tears immediately the drawn 2005 ulster final. Think it was just the sheer rivalry and intensity in that match, coming from behind in last few mins.
To this day have never experienced anything like it

I've said before that if Tyrone had failed to win the All Ireland in 2003, it would have destroyed them. They chanelled so much rage and anger into that effort. If they had lost at any stage in 2003 but especially in the final, they would never been able to lift themselves off the floor again-I honestly believe a loss in that final would have sent Tyrone back into the bushes.
I mentioned before on this forum an incident at the end of that game. Although gutted, I was determined to appear civil about it and turned behind me to shake the hand of the first Tyronie I seen. Some bollox with his kid (wearing one of those idotic red afro wigs) was clambering behind me to try and get onto the field. I reached out my hand and the wee bollox laughed at me and gave me the fingers. His Da laughed with him.
I have met some decent Tyronies to be fair-but that incident for me just kinda summed up the Tyronie spirit and toxic 'air' that surrounds them-especially that year.

I despise Tyrone with every fibre of my being. I loathe them. I absolutely hate them. It's all based on that team from the 2000's and the amount of rats that they had playing for them. Phillip Jordan got Marsden sent off is one of the worse things I've seen in sport (as well as Kelly's gouge on Comer unfortunately). My uncle used to do a good bit of work with Jordan and after that incident he didn't do as much! Funny thing is that I don't find this current Tyrone team as objectionable on a player by player basis. Michael McKiernan is a mouth piece. Darren McCurry is up himself. I can't think of too many more that I would hate as much as many members of the 2000's team. But such was my hate for that team, that Tyrone could have a team of Collie Holmes', guys who are on the panel, are totally anonymous and you have no real opinion on and I would still hate them.
I can't stand Down and not so much because they are our traditional rivals but because everyone is always banging on about 'Down football', and how good they used to be. I guess it would be similar to the way people talk about the Armagh team from the 2000's, but Down's time was even longer ago. They somehow fluked their way to an All Ireland Final in 2010 and it's gave people more ammo to talk about the greatness of Down football. Delighted to see them doing so badly.
I wouldn't be a fan of Donegal either. I hate their shirts, can't stand the Donegal accent, get bored of people talking about going there on their holidays (I've been twice - once as a baby and then one time when I was in Fermanagh and drove into Pettigo before realising I had made a wrong turn, so turned around and drove back into Fermanagh). I think their style of football is awful and think that Michael Murphy is one of the biggest yaps in the game - based on the rough attention he's got over the years it's hardly surprising in fairness.
Laois would be our boggy team. Honestly we could draw them in the qualifiers with us riding high in Division 1 and them stuttering along in Division 4 and they would still have a good chance of beating us. They are one of those teams that just pull you down to their level. Their fans are mouthpieces as well.
There's no one else that bothers me too much. I used not to like Dublin when I was a teenager but I moved past that. Kerry are cynical and don't get called on it. Antrim bug me because they should be better but aren't and can't get their house in order.
